JUst got an I phone and am looking for a handlebar mount. I see a couple on e-bay-anybody have experience they can share?

Don't they have an App for that?  I use Ram Mounts for my iPhone or GPS. Ram MountsHas worked good and held up well. ---Bob

I get the CruiserCustomizing.com newsletter. They have a video piece on handlebar mount options on their website that might give you a few ideas.

I used a Kuryakyn universal bar mount and a Monaco aluminum case. Took a tiny bit of fitting to mount the aluminum case to the Kury mount plate but works great. Snaps shut so not too worried about it opening up and dropping the phone but sometimes add a band/strap to keep it from opening just in case. These devices aren't for staring at, and the mounts are there so you don't have to carry everything in your pockets.

Quit ruining other peoples threads.
I personally use RAM mounts. They have about everything, are very sturdy, and very adjustable.

My bad. I truly didn't realize I was the only person on the planet that almost got taken out by another biker not paying attention to the road. I stand corrected.

Yesterday, they were bitching about the soccer Mom driving a cage with a coffee in one hand, texting with the other, all the while putting her make up on! Are we motorcyclists any better? Maybe this thread wasn't the place for it, but I think you made a valid point.

Don, no one said it wasn't a valid point but just in the wrong thread which can easilly be discussed by creating a new one. That's all this is about. There are certain protocols that many believe should be maintained and talking  is one of them. Of course it's not a capital offence but then to be ridiculed in the process for asking a simple question is just not good form. Anyway, Getting back to the subject of what this thread is all about, I've just bought an Iphone which will need handlebar mounts so I can glance at the Tom Tom map so I don't get lost in foreign city traffic. So thankyou to those guys who have put info up on the various mounts out there. Much appreciated

You mean your NOT going to be texting while riding!
...BUT its a phone...its for calling people not for looking at maps like a GPS or listening to music like an MP3 player.
Jeez...next thing you tell me its going to be able to be used as a TV remote or for looking on the interweb or it can be used as a level.

I know a number of folks who have the I-phone. NONE use them as a phone. They seem to use it primarily as an internet tool/MP3 player/video, etc. All of my I-phone user friends have another phone to make actual calls. I find this weird. I just found a nice bike-friendly mount for my Garmin (take a chill pill - it give me voice directions via an ear piece) Cost was $16 shipped from GPSCity.com. I'm making my own mount to use on my windshield. I don't want anything cluttering up my bars and would only use the Garmin on a long trip and the windshield would be in place. I have to figure out a way to get 12V power from somewhere in teh headlight bucket. I hope to test it out this weekend, if the mount arrives in time. I'll post pictures. Quote:

Well, here's the mount I made for my Garmin unit. I think it's going to work out OK. I'm taking it on a trip tomorrow for a test run. I made the bracket which attached to the windshield strap. My windshield comes off (Memphis Shades), so when the shield is off, no fugly mount on the handlebar. The bracket for the Garmin came from GPSCity.com, $16 shipped. It's very secure, much better than the ballmount would have been. I lucked out on clearing the speedo and it's perfectly angled (also luck on first try). I can change the angle a bit if necessary. I plan to use a set of earphones to hear voice directions and maybe some tunes on long trips. (they worked well with the unit running on batteries in my pocket. It pops off easily, leaving just the bracket. I am running a 12V power socket out of the headlight. My Garmin 755T came with the "Traffic" power cord which has a big lump of a unit near the end. I might get just a regular power cord which should tuck out of sight. When not in use, the power outlook is out of sight and water-protected. I still have to paint the bracket. If it works out, I might get it powdercoated silver.   And the 12V Power socket, zip-tied to the cable/wire handlebar bracket. Works well, not sure I like it. It will do for now. I used the headlight running light power/ground wires for the socket, as I've never used that light.

If the post had been "What is the view from the seat of your bike?" I would have taken that pic. Since it was about the mount I took a pic of the mount. I can see the speedo just fine. Obscures the odometer a bit unless I lean slightly forward.
This kind of self righteous stuff gets on my nerves a bit. I don't think that using a device like this to get route directions verbally rather than looking down at a map is wrong in any way shape or form. Those of you that have never looked down at the map in your tank bag while riding are most likely not the norm. It is just a matter of managing the risk since you cannot eliminate it totally. Why would you be opposed to that?

D@mn I hate water-cooling and fuel injection on bikes. And oil... hate oil on bikes too! Oh, and kick-starters!
Seriously though, have a look at some of the car handsfree kits around with little LCD screens, remote controls, & bluetooth connection. You can do pretty much everything with a little mobile box while leaving your phone in your pocket. They're not waterproof, but neither is your I-Phone.
As for me, I'm on of the ones who use riding as an excuse to turn the phone off and escape the world, but we each ride our own way

Or pulled out a printed Mapquest direction sheet from their jacket pocket. I had to do that in busy, downtown Baltimore earlier this year. I vowed not to do it again.

My BB is a GPS, MP3, Cell phone, etc. all in one. Has Bluetooth also. So I don't really want or need another device to haul around. I can turn off the ring if I want but mostly just look at it when stopped to see if there are any calls I want to return. Since I have to have one for work, can do a lot of work on the phone, and am on call a lot it just makes life simpler for me.

I write directions on a post it note and stick it on the back of the windshield (off to the side of the speedo). Sounds crazy and almost cave man in comparison to all the technology, but it works!

I did that once...too bad the wind caugth it and I didnt know where I was going after that
