Not into all the internet socializing?

I just stopped for lunch a little while ago. The people at the table next to me, 5 late 20/early 30s lads and lassies, were just going on and on about facebook, my space and twitter. The discussion went on whilst talking and texting on their phones, as well.

I'm not a technophobe, I like computers (have even built a couple), I like the internet (been online since the mid 80's), I like having a cell phone for when I really need it. I have a facebook page, and a my space page, but very rarely visit them. I don't have a need to know what friends are doing at any minute of the day, and don't have a desire to bore my friends with the same about me.

I guess my age shows, but I just don't get it. I've never felt the need to have instant communication with my friends at any point in my life. Does that make me more or less secure as a person? Deep thoughts for just a Thursday!

i dont have a myspace, facebook, twitter, cellphone, ipod, cable, antenna, windows xp, or modern "gaming" system. Im 27 and I dont give a crap about anything new.

I think it's getting out of hand myself. When it leads to people texting in the car, cells in the car, etc...we all know THATS a problem. But it's also when your out with friends or family and one or two of them can't get their face out of their phones because they JUST can't stop texting. I consider it rude. Others call it progress.
Then theirs these folks who don't know how to type b/c all they no how 2 du is txt type lol and all that. This character is cool though: (.Y.)
I guess we'll see where all this leads as the future arises.

I don't get it, but I don't like landline telephones either. I did text - once!

Was with our son a few weeks back and his cell was going off constantly. Texts from different girlfriends. When I asked him how he kept up with them, he said "Caller ID".

What will they think of next?

It's just an electronic leash to me!

You know of course this comes from us all sitting here checking this page out on our computers with high speed internet of course. Out of all these things the one I dont get the most is the twitter thing, I really dont care what everyone is doing every single second of the day.

Worst thing I have seen lately, was a gal riding on the back of her mans motorcycle and she was texting while they were riding down the highway, all I could do, was wish they would hit a bump and she would drop her phone

I do agree with what you have said, but I must confess that since my divorce I have joined Facebook, I only joined so that I could see what my eldest was up to, as he is not speaking to me at the moment, it's not much but at least I know what he is doing with his life. Also it was how I found out about Scott having his accident, before seeing it on here. So I suppose it may have it's place, just wish it didn't!!

The only time I post on here is when Im at work so it doesnt count...haha

I have to agree I can't get my daughter off the internet or the cell phone its her life line I keep saying what happens if the power goes off what then???? I don't get it either I feel that life is passing her by and she doesn't get out much...thank goodness she goes back to college soon ..
The text era is hard to digest at times it is somewhat paralyzing our youth...

Hasnt the Internet( or is one referring to the WorldWideWeb ? ) been commercially available since the mid 90s?
