I have to agree, he should have kept your $50 and used it to obtain a usable part just as he did.
As luck would have it, the day I went to buy a replacement tray on ebay. Suncoast cycles was selling 2 trays, $25 each with free shipping. That's an unheard of price for these things. Couldn't believe how it came out to exactly $50. Smells like justice to me.
