Once the worst is over please remember that there are literally millions of other dogs out there who will love you just as much, and need you to care for them. All you have to do is pick them up from the animal shelter.
Thanks, my bride and I have decided this is too painful to ever do again and probably won't have another dog. As the cats pass, or are gifted away we will eventually be "empty nesters". Just so you know, we have 8 cats that are all rescued.
Clay
I certainly understand your heartache Clay, and I offer my heartfelt condolences on your loss. I've lost several canine friends over the years. And I'll lose more. It hurts, but I can't imagine life with out a dog (or two). I respect your decision, but after the hurt subsides you may reconsider, or not. Either is OK.
Anyway, this is from a card that was sent by our veterinarian after my wife and I lost our first dog many years ago:
We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, Never fully understanding the necessary plan. -- Irving Townsend
