Most of this security is a result of terrorist activity and the government's attempts to circumvent terrorist activity. The terrorist wants to bring government to their knees and get them to bow to their demands. The ironic thing is, as a result of their single minded goals, ALL of the public is brought under even GREATER surveilance and control.
