What signals are you using, and how are you doing the math? Are you using a programmable chip or an existing device like the bicycle speedo?
Thanks, maybe vertical, I have a few other things to try. It really needs to be an instantaneous read or it's just a distraction.
The computer sees the speed from a wheel sensor, the tach pulses, and the neutral light voltage. The math boils down to engine rpm divided by wheel rpm.
You can buy a commercial gear indicator for under $100 now and i'm sure they work fine - this is just my idea of fun. And besides, it keeps RAINING!
