Indians are cool, better than HD's, but really, not as cool as a Triumph.

If it were RED you'd really have something there!

Nice to meet you, decent rally eh?
Despite all them Triumphs.

I don't know the proper spelling without looking it up, but
I'd be interested in a pumpkin tossin' contest anyday!
OK, whadda ya call it: trebouche???????????
There's a town here in CT that also has a fall festival.
But I can't remember its name. You met me, you know why.

Love to have a Bonnie of sorts but as an addition, not a replacement.
Rode a bird yesterday. They still have much work left to do.
No thanks.

Esthetically, the tank is boring. It has lost that classic Triumph shape
I like so much. I can't get past that rear fender either. It had nice power
down stairs but it dragged it's feet when breaking a ton. That certainly
was not unexpected though being fresh off the showroom floor. Having
all that torque will be nice as a touring bike. I wonder if they will
come out with a fairing for it? Oh yeah, I found the brakes to be a little
lacking as well for dual disc.

PS - Don't know how you mean "other side"....
For some people, it's all about brand names.
For others it's just about motorcycles.
Ride 'em all, man!

I read this over and over and finally realized what you're trying to say..."I am a new guy... I ride the autobahn... "

Now that we got that straight, when did Triumph start making a V-twin?

I'll tell you what the more you look at the aboriginal american bike in person. The more interesting it becomes. At first glance its like a sculpture, but then it has some interesting engineering built in also. I just thought it the indians where a knock off Harley like any number of "custom" bike builders where putting out in the last ten years. But it was far more than just a pile of parts out of a catalog.

Nice Indian!

If you're looking for a big cruiser with a fairing, look no more. 92 HP & 109 ft. lbs of torque.

1936. The "V" stood for "vertical"

Yeah, but Victory's have no soul. Talk about plastic components.

Thanks Dill. I know you were fascinated by it. The earlier 99-01 bikes were just that.
We call them the "kit bikes". As an OEM they had five years to become proprietary. The 2003
is mostly that. The chassis, tins, engine, transmission and many other smaller items
are proprietary Indian. 2004's had even more changes but that is just more history in
the Indian Motorcycle struggle.

Another interesting tidbit for you:
Back in the forties, when a guy by the name of E. Paul Dupont when holding the reigns,
the ball was dropped on quality control when they were getting into the Vertical Twin
game. Their first demise was not far behind that.

But I am not here to argue "Taste great!"/"Less filling!" about Indian and Triumph motorcycles.
I'm here because I met some cool people at one of your rallies who love motorcycles and
motorcycling. Some of them might have the "Brand Name" tattooed on the arses. I don't care
about that either. Bully for them. I belong to a forum targeting Indians as active as this one,
and fully understand your camaraderie. Let's get together and laugh and ride. I'll ask you questions
about your bike and you can ask me questions about mine. If you want to be a snob, then go buy a
bimmer and never wave to another fellow rider as you ride on by.

So much for your comment:
"For some people, it's all about brand names.
For others it's just about motorcycles.

If you don't like plastic, you're going to be disappointed by the fenders & tank badges on the Triumphs.

So what's your take on the new incarnation of the bike?
I'll stick with the too expensive to take off.
Just like Harley is having problems moving big ticket bikes now. Their best seller is not the batwing that you see everywhere but the 883. I'm not sure why Victory or Indian doesn't a have a lower price point entry level machine.
I know the scout was kind of it, but still isn't down there in price like Triumph. I wouldn't have paid 10k for my bike.

I am very familiar with Victory's and have ridden and worked on them. Ride them all
doesn't mean I have to want to own one. As much trouble as they are, I would like to own
an old V92C though.

I am also familiar with the plastic front fender and tank logos on the Triumphs. Plastic tank
badges? Well, "it is what it is". No big deal. Plastic fenders, although not my choice,
Triumph did do a good job with it. The paint is good and they hold their shape well.

I am a die hard Triumph guy but that doesn't mean I don't like other bikes. (Don't care for anything Jap except maybe the Valkare) I like HD, Indian, Triumph , BSA, Norton, BMW and so on and can appreciate them all. That doesn't mean I won't pull your, or anyone elses, leg with some good natured ribbing about how great Triumph is. Just like the guys I ride with who own HDs, we rib back and forth all the time.

Ribs are good. I like pie, too.

I catch a lot of ribbing from the HD crowd to. They always want to know how Indian is doing in
this economy. I tell them, "Well, so far this year they have closed down 3 less factories
than Harley and laid off 1000 less employees. And like Harley, their factory in China......
well, they don't have a factory in China like Harley. They would rather employ Americans."

I have total respect for some Japanese bikes. Hyabusas for their speed and beauty, V-Max
for it's nary 200 ponies, Gold Wings for their ultimate level of touring and the CB750.
HHell, you gotta respect Honda motors in general for their unmatched dependability. Matter
of fact, mert and I ran into a guy just last Thursday night with a 92 750 Nighthawk that has
98k on it. Man, who would even WANT to put 98k on a Nighthawk?

Well, the finish on the new bikes is sweet as candy, the leather work is amazing and the
new t-shirts are "to die for" - LOL.

I am very happy they pressed on with the original Gilroy Powerplus chassis. It is a solid
frame with outstanding handling characteristics for a bike it's size. None of the shimmies
and shakes found in FLST's and FLH's. The manufacturing defects of the Gilroy Powerplus
motor were corrected and it was even made a little bigger.

I have test rode three of the 09's to date. As expected, they are a little under powered
straight out of the box. Even the one I rode in NC that had their "stage one" kit installed
on it. The handling is still there though and the dual front brakes are a great improvement.

"I'll stick with the too expensive to take off."

Well, as it was explained to me not to long ago, building up an OEM motorcycle company like
this takes time. Doing so in economic times such as these is actually prime. You can grow as
the economy improves. Set up costs are reduced being able to purchase machinery at lower
prices from manufacturers and liquidations. Property costs are lower and tax breaks are higher.
Indian's goal going into 2009 was a mere 750 bikes and they met that goal. They will continue
with the single model for 2010 and plan to introduce an additional model for 2011.

Another plus is that Indian is privately owned by a guy with lots of money. Enough to carry
the company without the help of financiers. A guy that has a vision and passion to bring back
an iconic name because of it's strong heritage.

One of the amazing things about riding that bike is the vast number of people that identify
with it. People that have never even ridden a motorcycle will stop and comment on it and
know what it is. I know you guys know what I'm talking about. The Triumph draws them as
well. Just ask mert about how we can park our bikes in a line of HD's and folks that are
strolling by without a care in the world about the motorcycles will stop dead in their
tracks when they get to the Triumph & Indian. The boys on their jixers at the smokers lounge,
the New Haven motor cop at the coffee shop, the girl behind the counter at the c-store.....
the list goes on.

Anyways, back on track.

The comment is also made often about Indian trying to compete with Harley-Davidson or
Victory. Um, if they were trying to compete then the price would be much lower and they
would be trying to stamp out many more? One of the upsides to being privately owned rather
than going public is the company is not controlled by share holders. Harley fanatics are
experiencing a cold hard reality right now as the stock holders are only concerned with
the profit margin. Being in the red is unacceptable. Now plants are closing and jobs are
being lost. The big slap in the face (IMO) is that Hop-Sing still has his job at the Harley
factory in China.

But, the bottom line is, I got mine and I try not to concern myself too much with "their" business.
It really doesn't affect me anyways. I will always be able to get parts and I know more about
servicing a Gilroy bike than they do.

Ok I'll accept your point about it being a "premium" brand so quality is more important than price. I guess my comment should be more directed at Victory than Indian. And your correct about Harley having issues. The market is over saturated with their bikes. They no longer have the exclusive part that meant you could almost sell a used bike for what you paid new. I see them having to drop the price considerably on new machines in order to sell them soon.
