Considering the amount of casualties that the cap and ball revolvers did to a invading enemy. And the fact that the south had the LeMat, that was years ahead of its time. I would take one also. But still prefer to pack my 1911 Colt .45 
The old cap and ball pistols like the Colt Navy and the like actually inflicted very bad wounds because they fired dead soft lead. No tin in it like modern lead ammo. It flattened out and fragmented and the low velocity all just made for a very ugly wound. All that also caused the bullet to carry all kinds of contaminants into the wound with it. That making it ripe for later infection causing death later.
