The paint around the gas tank fill opening on my 2005 AMERICA is beginning to break down. Anyone else experience this?

This seems to be a fairly common problem. This is the first I've heard of a 2005 having this issue. Suggestion, get a Kuryakyn gas cap from Newbonneville.com to protect the paint from getting any worse. It screws into the tank and has a separate cap that unscrews. You may want to touchup the chipped paint to keep the area clear of rust.

I don't see bare metal,it appears the primer is still intact. My big fear is pieces of paint falling in clogging a line.

Weird, my '01 paint is fine. I wonder if it is a post fire thing?

There is no such thing as an '01. The first production run of the "Bonneville America" was in celebration of their 100th anniversary in '02/ ModelMaker

Someone talked about the 01 vs 02 thing recently. Maybe because the 02s were technically produced in 01 and the laws/standards in Australia are different, those guys get an 01?

I'm reading a February 2006 rag. Should I want to refer to the feb rag would I say the Jan 06? I think not. Why not? It was printed in January of 2006!!!!
How could any company have an '02 vehicle ready Jan 01, 2002? Right. They have to produce in '01 for the '02 model year. If Australia wants to call an '02 an '01 then we'll forever have to cross reference the years. Triumph produced the tba for the model year '02. Not for the model year '01. Were that the case, we would have an '00 tba! Why? Well think about it. How could an '01 be ready for sale on Jan 01, 2001? My head hurts. No matter the actual production date, the first model year of the tba was 2002.

Actually we drive on the right side of the road:) Literally anyway... Must be a US/European tradition to have that model year come early. Who knows why...

Wasn't 1998 the first year? It was according to this brain-child: 1998 America

This paint problem I'm always hearing about...could it be from rattling the gas pump nozzle around in there? Or does it happen somewhere else in the tank?
