My bike (05 Speedy) been sitting up for awhile with a dead battery, I got a new one and it started right up with the choke but will stall out before I can get it idle speed or when I touch the throttle. It was running good before the battery issue. Any ideas?. Thanks, Craig

Check you elect. connections under the dash and seat, and at the plugs and coils.
Wiggle the wires going into the back of the headlight while the motor is running.
Check the gas? Petcock open?

How long is "a while"? May have to take carbs apart and clean everything. Happened to a buddy's '05 Bonneville after it sat in his office for over a year.

Thanks Guys, Its been sitting for about 4 months. Its been real humid here a I suspect that might have something to do with it. I drained the carbs and it got a little better, I couldn't close the choke without it stalling but I was able to get on the throttle and ride it around the yard without it stalling out, sounded bad but it kept running. I took Blackwinds advice, checked and reseated all the plugs/connectors, I was able to close the choke without it stalling but I did have to turn up the idle some. It seems to be getting better, its raining so I couldn't take it out to see how it runs. Thanks for the help..Craig

Your carbs are gummed up. Try a bottle Seafoam in the tank. Read this write up on the product. http://www.webbikeworld.com/sea-foam/ You might have to let the stuff sit a while to perform its magic.

Squirrel condoms? Loose coil wire? Corroded connector? I'm starting to feel like a broken record...

It seems be be getting better, idles good, even had to back it back down some. In neutral it responds well to the throttle and sounds good. When in gear the right side start backfiring and breaking up. I rechecked all the connections and the squirrel condom on that side and everything appears to be good. I put some of that Seafoam in thinking its a carb problem. My thinking is that if its was electrical things wouldn't be improving like they are???? Thanks again for the help.

In my recent experience electrical faults are completely random. There isn't necessarily a consistent decline in performance. Eventually it will crap out completely, but for the near term it can go up, it can go down and back up again. All you can do is run it and hope for the best. Keep your cell phone with you and make sure you have road hazard insurance.

Oh and, P.S. Keep posting the symptoms here. Somebody's bound to have seen it before and know what it is.

After reading that article on Seafoam I'd have to say give that a bash before going further.

Did you drain the tank and replace it with fresh gas? 4 months in a very humid environment would allow the existing fuel to absorb a ton of water. Also, that crap can get pretty gummy so it's likely the hidden fuel filter in the carbs is clogged...and as an extra bonus the alcohol has rotted one or more of your squirrel condoms.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

OK, Its been 2 weeks running the seafoam thru it. It's still still popping pretty bad on the right side. I think I'll pull the carb off and clean it out. I've never done anything other than change a battery on this thing,is there any good links on how to get the carb off. Thanks, Craig
