Because you mention that you are looking to keep it old school, here are a couple of sites that might provide some thoughts or ideas.
Triumph Paint Schemes Old Ads, Brochures, Pictures I used the first link to come up with the paint scheme when I had my '03 repainted. I went with the 1965 scheme because I thought it looked great with the tank badge I had chosen and it matched up with the look I was trying to achieve.
Here is the result so far...it's a never ending process.
A little difficult to see, but the front fender does have the racing stripe per the 1965 scheme.
If nothing else maybe these sites can provide a little nudge in one direction or another.
