Had this idea for a tank design. So I made a non-permanent version of it using adhesive chrome tape. I want to see if I like it enough to make it permanent.

What do you think of the look? Gimme some feedback.

There are more pics here on my flickr page.

Not really. Inspiration from the Union Jack but I wanted to keep it simple - the Jack is quite complex.

Well you're the first one to make that new tank look good.
I didn't think that was possible.

Yes, it suits the fully rounded tank well.

I like the idea, but there's something about it that doesn't QUITE work imho. Maybe it's that it doesn't work with the knee indents, or is the x to high... not sure. But hey, if you like it then don't listen to guys like me who need glasses to even see what you've done. Now where are they anyway.... ?

The important thing is whether or not you like it. Most people here so far seem to.

I like it...

I just hate plain tanks, hence why the new bike is not black.

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

I think you could be on the money here Keith. It was very tricky to get the position exactly right and the current result was about my third try.

Getting it to work with the tank badge was also a constraining factor.

If I do keep it I will probably refine it a little more.

I'm part Irish part American part French (if you go back far enough) so there's no real connection there. But practically, the cross of the jack doesn't show off the curves of the new tank like the X does.

I like it at the moment but I'm not entirely sure - it's not exactly subtle. I think I will leave it as a temporary addition for a week or so. Then if I get sick of it it's easy to remove.

Do you guys think the adhesive will still peel off easily in a week? I purposely didn't de-wax the tank hoping that would keep the bond temporary.

From the side view, I don't see the Union Jack, I see a little paint and BINGO!, GENERAL LEE!

And put me down for a big ol' on the way it is.

I like it with the exception of how it is playing with the badge. If it was a little farther back to give the badge a little breathing room I think it will look better IMO

That was my thought originally and how I first set it up - it gave space for the badge but the X looked too far back so I ended up moving the X further forward.

I think you got the X spot on. I also appreciate that you wanted the "jack" to be subtle. But I would add just a litte color, very small patches of blue and red, to lead the viewer a little further down the road. Blue and red decal would peel off too, if you change your mind. Good work!

I always thought the best bit was the rampant lion in the middle of the Scots version.

I've often thought of painting a design on my tank using the reflective paint you see on traffic signs, then putting a heavy coloured clearcoat over it. The effect should be that it looks like the clear coat until light hits it right and the design flashes.

I think it catches your eye and is different. As long as you really like it that is important. On the other hand I think the look of the tank would get old quick, sorry.Look at the picture on here a few days in a row before you do it permenant.

Yeah, I think that's possible. That's why it stays temporary for a while. That said - so far I still like it.

I think if it were painted, it would depend on what color you use. To me, I like the X but the chrome tape is what's messing w/ the badge.

In fact, they do make reflective DECAL material, which comes in many colors. It is easy to work with, and retains it original color until night time and a head light hits it, whereby it light up as white reflective. Most sign companies carry it or can order it, and it is a lot of fun for creative types.
