So almost three weeks after i crashed my bike, the insurance company calls and tells me they are gonna give me net $3000.00 to replace it. My blood has begun to boil! I was paying premiums based on stated $10,000.00 replacement value for a reason! In about five minutes i am able to list more than $7600.00 in add-ons and upgrades not including the cost of the bike. I think i'm gonna have to light a fire under my insurance agents butt and see what he can do for me. All of this on top of the fact that my health insurance company is trying to backpedal and say they aren't covering my medical expenses due to some kind of technicality. Has anybody had a positive experience with an insurance company? I sure haven't!

Insurance companies are scam artists. Their job is to screw you, that's what they do.

Boy isn't that the truth. The people WE PAY money to for our OWN GOOD and PROTECTION are the ones who SCREW US. It doesn't make much sense anymore does it?

You have got to fight and prove its value(pics and receipts).Remember its a negotiation, they are going to try and give you as little as possable. I have always done ok with insurance claims (so far)but you do have to fight like heck to get whats fair and thats not right either.

I was rear ended on my 64 BMW and it didn't do much damage but the adjuster wrote it for the whole stainless exhaust and a few other minor things. I was more than happy and he is the one who came up with the amount not me. Way more than I expected.

+1 on what Bill says. Never take the first offer, they lowball you to save money because a surprising number of people take it without a fight.
My daughter's car was stolen a few years ago, an older Dodge/Mitsubishi something. It was recovered but had been trashed. The insurance totaled it and offered $1000. After I talked with the adjuster they paid $2200. For a car she paid $1600 for.
Take all your evidence for the accessories and do your own research to determine the replacement value for the bike.
Good luck.

I have had good luck with my ins. co.(Pekin), although I wouldn't argue that they are parasites. They also seem to be unpredictable. Some times they pay, sometimes they are jerks who dare you to hire a lawyer. As to your case, Rob, it sounds like a lawyer kinda situation to me. And I know, where the hades are ya gonna get funds for a lawyer?!!! I wish you luck with the bas***ds!!!

Never really had a problem with insurance companies, and actually, have had some pretty good experiences over the years. For example, daughter crashed her car a year or so ago.. Insurance company (state farm) totaled it and gave us over $3000 more than what we paid for it 6 months earlier.
Only bad experience I've had was after hurricane Andrew.. and it wasn't over the amount, but the length of time it took to finally get the settlement. Eventually got the full face value of the policy, and could have got more if we provided receipts showing we went over the face value amount (replacement policy from Allstate). In the end, it worked out great as we sold the house as-is, took the money from the sale plus the insurance money and purchased a much nicer, much larger home.
Keep on them.. unless you are dealing with some small time fly by night outfit, they will usually do right eventually.
Cheers, Brad
