Thing is, tassles serve no purpose. Same as fringes on jackets. Driving lights and floorboards serve a purpose and have a quantifiable benefit. And I don't think they look that bad.
But I've seen some of the baddest-arsed bikers with those damned tassles dangling from their brake and clutch levers. May as well put a rainbow sticker on the back.
