I just stuck a Hella 100/80W H4 in my America to see if it helps at night but I'm wondering if this bulb is legal in Canada??? What about the States?
Typical bulbs are 60/55W but you can purchase many types that put out more light than even the higher wattage bulbs.
Comments?

Not sure what our stock h-watt/l-watt are but when I handed my broken one to the guy at the automotive parts counter I also inquired about higher wattage replacement. He said cannot do... anything above this is illegal in Canada. But, for the same wattage you can buy a Hawkeye (30 brighter) and some other one which was brighter again but very expensive. I went with the Hawkeye which ran about $32 CDN.
Live to love, love to live.

More of a concern to me would be if the wiring & circuit could handle the increased current flow. Thats about a 50% increase in wattage, and its on full time.
And you may see me tonight

I had the same concern but the headlight is on a 10 amp circuit. Calculated draw is 8 amps on high beam and 6.3 on low. So far so good.

Been using a 100/80W H-4 headlight for years, always on. Also using a pair of 55W driving lights (wired through the separate 10Amp fuse in fusebox) which are always left on also. No problems, like I said, been using them all on simultaneously, for several years.

That's the point. A bulb that is brighter due to a higher wattage rating is supposedly not allowed, but a bulb that is brighter due to being more efficient and meets the 60/55W rating is allowed.
Go figure.
Another example of the law not keeping up with reality.

I've had a 100w for a couple of years, no problems, 34,000+ miles.
