Based on what I've read here I pulled the snorkle out of my air box, opened the lid and removed the other two snorkles, then cut down the piece between the air filter and the intake to the carbs. Then I opened up the bottom of the box and will open the bottom of my K & N filter. Have I done the right things or should I do more?

Yup, that's the basics. The K&N filter needs a gasket underneath to make a good seal between it and the airbox. I used some 1" thick foam that I bought from a fabric store; cut it in a ring shaped like the bottom of the filter.

You can open up the bellmouth a little too.

Post a pic of what you have so far, so we can take a look at it.

I've tried posting pics, but it says that my file is too large and I don't know how to reduce it.

What do you mean by this cutting down? I have done everything else but messing with the wall that held the 2 smaller snorkels. Is this suppose to be done also and why?and how? Oh I did place a screen in the bottom.

Willy, I'm just using common sense to try to eliminate obsticles to a clean flow of air. If air comes in through the single snorkle, then has to flow through the two snorkles I can only imagine how convoluted the path must be. And by removing the two snorkles you have two holes to allow air into your carburators. But if you cut away that wall you allow much more air to enter your carbs, and it still has to go through your air cleaner, so you've increased the air flow but still have filtered air. Does that make sense ?

Stan
PS. If you send me your email address I can show you a picture of what I did, but the picture file is too large to post here. skromfols@hotmail.com

send me a link to the photo and I'll post it. If you don't have the photo on the internet somewhere, well kick it to me using my email. P.S.:I saw the airbox photo in the Rat forum. That wasn't yours though.

Moe, my picture isn't all that good, and I sent it to Willy already, but I'll also send it to you if you want to post it. I used a putty knife heated with my torch until it was red hot to cut the plastic (someone else already posted this trick), it did a good job.

here are pictures of the 2 mods that I did. One shows the removal of the area under the air filter. If you cut the bottom of your air filter out (if you have the oval, not the pods, haha), or if you have the pods, this hole will allow a better air flow. The second pic shows where I cut the plate between the air filter and the intakes. As I mentioned in my post, I used the method someone else posted of heating up a putty knife and using that to cut it out.
