When I was young, I went through them pretty fast. Of course they were pretty rough to begin with.
Since I started buying mostly new, I keep them around for 7-10 years, depends on how much I like them. I've had a few that I tamed quickly and got rid of them just as quickly.
I've had my Speedmaster now for 5 years. Rode it today. Cool bike.
