The thing to remember about efficiency in this case is that even while performing at >90%, that has to be coupled with the efficiency of the delivery from the electric company to the home. Most power plants operate around 35% efficiency, and then transmission losses wipe out a good deal of energy en route to your charging stations. There has never been a source of energy as dense and with as good an energy-to-weight ratio as gasoline. It is going to be a significant engineering problem to find a true replacement.
