Well, there are a couple of points to make here Ron.. first off, nobody said it was for the masses, only that it was a great accomplishment by Chevrolet that few other auto makers have been able to pull off.. I think Jay put it as being the "Performance bargain of the decade" not just in terms of it's price/performance, but also points out that it is basically an "Exotic supercar at Chevy Cobalt prices in terms of repair".
As for it being the most powerful that we will see for a long, long time.. Perhaps, although we heard the same thing back in the early 80's when new emission standards killed the so called "Muscle Cars" of that era. And yet, here we are with not just the Corvette, but many high performance cars out there that far surpass anything factory built back in the day, and fully meet the emission standards that were supposed to kill them off. Technology marches on.
Also, as alternative fuel/power sources are looked at, who knows what may happen with the Corvette (and all other forms of transportation for that matter) in the future. We may just see an electric (or other alternative fueled) Corvette in the future that can out perform Jays ZR1 sometime down the road. Just look at the Tesla Roadster.. even in it's emerging stages, it can do 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds and at 92% average efficiency, which is more than double that of todays internal combustion engines. And it's only in it's infancy!
Cheers, Brad
