I am a printing salesperson so when visiting clients, when it's not raining, I actually get paid to ride. Today on my second call, I traveled to Glens Falls, NY (170 miles out from home in Syracuse)for work & while there my gearchange rod broke. There are no Triumph shops in the greater Albany area. I was saved by a Harley rider who was doing boiler work at the paper mill I was visiting. As there were welders on site they put it back together & I was on my way. I wanted to give them something for their trouble but they said no. Pay it forward was the charge. They never busted my stones about my broken America and had nothing but good things to say about Triumph in general. Go figure!

Bikers helping bikers, that is a good thing.

Contrary to popular belief, not all Hardly riders are the elite professional wanna be biker posers that some make them out to be. I don't know how many times I've stopped on the side of the road for a smoke and had one pass me by, turn around and come back to see if everything was alright. And it's not limited to just Harleys, but it does seem limited to cruisers, as I've never had a crotch rocket stop and inquire if I needed help. In the same vein, I usually do the same thing when I see another biker that I think may be broke down, and sometimes even if it is a crotch rocket Cheers, Brad

In my opinion a real biker doesn't look at brand or type of bike but just stops because someone else on two wheels needs it. I've stopped to help a couple on a street bike that ran out of gas. I even let his pretty lady ride with me to the store to get a quart of gasoline to get them to the station.

Ummm ... No, I'm quite serious. She bought a large Gatorade bottle and washed it out to put gasoline in to get their bike to the station. Why would that sound like a joke?

I own both brands, the quintessential Brit plus the ubiquitous American. If I break down does this mean I'll have to stop and help myself?

Used to always be like that. I've even helped people get Jap (not the same as JAP) bikes running on the side of the road. It was quite common to see riders of Indians, Harleys, Hendersons, Brit bikes and even the moped size German and Italian bikes stop to help each other.

Good question, Ed!
Well, right off-the-bat I'm thinkin' you "could have" a little logistical problem with your supposition here!
(...but I'll keep workin' on this and get back to ya when I think I might've figured this out...okay ol' buddy?!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Okay Chuck and Dill, let me ask you two somethin' here then.....Did you guys NOT know of your wives' tendencies towards this sort of ill-advised and under-developed taste in motorcycles BEFORE you married 'em?????
(I mean, isn't the term "deal-breaker" in your vocubulary, gentlemen???)

If she's that set on it, at least talk her into a 1200, those will almost keep up. Get the 883 and you'll constantly have to pull over and wait.
