I went on the launch of the new Triumph Thunderbird Yesterday in Pott Shrigley, Cheshire & then rode the bike back to Maidstone for my local dealer
We did 75 miles around the Peak District, over the moors & the Cat & Fiddle. The bike handles really well, very flickable for a big cruiser & has plenty of grunt. I did over 300 miles in pouring rain & the grip was great, no scary moments.
The tank range is very good too, 150 -160 miles before the fuel light comes on & then you have 50 odd miles left in reserve.
I liked the bike a lot, now have much is left in the piggy bank?

Martyn If you have to ask why I ride, you wouldn't understand the answer!

Im seriously considering replacing my 2005 America with the Thunderbird, having a little trouble gettin it to "grow on me"...the headlight is, ummm...."different", and Im not sure about the handlebars....my initial reaction..."Strange bike"....but then again, was'nt comfortable with my '05 until about an hour into riding her....

Too bad you had all that rain to ride in but pretty cool you rode the T-Bird as much as you did. That was a lot of riding!! Glad to hear you like the bike because as soon as I win the lottery I'm buying one!

It seems odd to me that the Thunderbird only has an additional gallon
of fuel with twice the engine displacement but gets the same range to
a tank. By that logic shouldn't the America go 300 miles to a tank???

Bigger displacement doesn't always mean less miles to the gallon. My bike doesn't get the mileage the Harley friends I ride with do. They are 1400 cc and I'm 904 cc. They get better mileage AND have a bigger tank.

But, they do run at a lot less rpm than I do at the same speed.
