When you unplug the 3 wire alternator lead from the regulator, what are the resistance values? I imagine they should be insulated (ie not grounded). The only way you can check them is to measure from one lead to the other so you are measuring the resistance values of 2 of the 3 phases at a time. Should all be equal.
