I bought a 17 tooth sprocket for my speedy, but when I removed the original it was a three piece rubber cush arrangement, whereas the new one was a solid one piece unit.
Since the rear wheel has a rubber cush drive, is it required on the front as well.

No, just bolt it on and torque it. Don't forget to bend the locking tab over on the washer

The rubber on the sides of the Triumph sprockets is supposed to reduce vibration from the chain, but most people can't tell the difference. Personally, I've been using a non Triumph 18T for years and would like to try a Triumph 18T and see if I could tell the difference. Only trouble is they cost about twice as much.
