Somebody said half-helmets work just fine, and it's true for the parts of the head they cover. There is a pretty important piece of your head that remains out there to get crushed, scaraped, and peeled from the skull!

I saw a head injury map posted on another forum that mapped where motorcyle related head injuries occured. I can't find it now, but a very large pertage of the injuries (30-40% maybe) occured in the areas of the chin, jaw, and nose.

Lot's of guys have ridden for years with no helmet at all, and are still here to tell us about, but why would you chance it especially if you are new to riding?
