ok, so i knocked out the last baffels out of my stock pipes and rejetted to jets smaller than the jetting calculator says (wanted to stay kind of lean). i was riding around today and thought i heard a slight popping sound at idle. would running a bit too lean cause this?

yes, you either need to adjust the pilot screws or install bigger pilot jets or both. You should get some deceleration popping if jetted right but no other popping. If yopu haven't increased you pilots already then you need to.

It is better to run just a little richer than leaner. Your engine will run cooler, and your mpg's won't change.
