There is a hose from the master cylinder to a hex adapter bolted to the frame. The switch screws into the other end of this adapter and holds the hose to the rear brake in place.
If the brake system has never been flushed and refilled with fresh fluid, it is possible that some crud has collected in the switch fluid inlet and blocking the pressurized fluid from coming back out.
