OK, I know that this gets brought up pretty frequently around here, but just call me lazy and not wanting to search... OK, I was having trouble with my Speedy cutting off at 7k and started doing some experimenting.... I checked the TPS and it was misadjusted so got it set to spec..... Ran it for a while and then it cut out around 5k, then the next time around 4k.. So decided to just disconnect the TPS all together..... Seemed to run fine for about a week, then it cut out on me again at about 4k.... It totally loses spark for about 10 to 20 seconds, then am able to fire it back up and take off... Not the typical 20 minutes that I have heard for the CDI box being overheated and going out..... Anyone have any suggestions? I havent checked the gap on the pickup yet because, to tell you the truth, I dont want to spend the money on a new gasket and oil change.. ( guess I could save the oil but still a pain )

The gasket is about six bucks. You won't lose any oil (well, maybe a teaspoonful) if you keep it on the side stand.

There are four projections on the alternator rotor. Line one of them up with the pickup coil and set the gap to 0.8mm (.031-.032 inch)

Well, pulled the side cover, and adjusted the pickup gap, it was at 1.15 and was told my my shop the same as here, that is should be .8, but they also told me to set it closer to .6 ( that is what they did with any that came in with problems ) so mine is now set at about .67, and seems to be running much better... I bounced it off the rev limiter about 10 times today, and it shut down at 7400 or so every time...... So hopefully that took care of my issues......
