Interesting thread. I like a couple of Harleys too - the 1200 Roadster and the DynaGlide Custom both come to mind as quality bikes that can actually be thrown around some corners. But my America keeps me way happy.
Had an interesting encounter with 4 Harley riders yesterday. Our group of 4 included one woman on a Suzuki C50 who has only been riding 4 weeks. Their group of 4 (we met on a ferry and started chatting) included a brand new E-Glide Ultra, a Road Glide and 2 softtails. Coming off the ferry into the twisties, the EGlide took off with me in pursuit, and he could REALLY ride, and that bike handled really well, at least as well as my TBA. Our two wives (one was the newbie) led the rest of the pack, and I dropped back later to ride sweep. It was hilarious. Those other three Harleys were all over the road, crossing the double yellow and cutting corners, trying to keep up with my wife (V-Star 1100) and the newcomer's Suzuki C50. All the while, those two ladies just kept leaning and carving, and never crossed the yellow line once!
At the next stop, the good rider on the E-glide came over and heaped (well-deserved) praise on our new rider and my wife, while the other three guys spat and scratched their balls and swaggered into the restaurant for a beer.
Some days, life is very very good.
