Anyone here ever tried a project like this before?
I have and it's not too scary but...
Pull the plugs, squirt oil in the cylinders, and let 'er sit for a couple of days before even considering turning the engine over. Other than that a few basic things to consider...
did it sit with gas in the tank? were the carbs drained? is there rust in the tank? did the owner pump a bit of oil in the cylinders prior to storage? what kinda bike is it? water or air cooled?
Yer gonna have varnish in the carbs so you will need to clean them up internally. The tank is a thing to look into. Rust, varnish, water (condensation).
Clean up the fuel system, make sure there is fresh oil in the engine, turn it over manually (kick or push in gear). If the engine turns freely and you got the fuel thing worked out, crank 'er up and see if she fires.
Live to love, love to live.
