So...Ive kinda got a crush on these Roland Sands bars:
VINTAGE SHORT STACK (30” WIDE X 7.5” RISE X 6.5” CENTER WIDTH)

Ive never ridden a bike with apes so Im looking for some opinions.
* What made you change to apes?
* Did it make it harder to ride? Easier?
* How did you know what size of apes to get? Taller, shorter, etc...
* Anything else you want to add.

I had similar shape and size bars called Z-bars on my '59 Triumph back in the day. But that was a long time ago and all I can remember about them is that they made me look cool (well that's what I thought, lol).

Those don't look too apey. Stock BA bars have about a 3" rise so that's only a 4.5" difference. Not like you'd be hanging off them. How tall are you?

But those are nice looking bars. I like the angular look and think they would really suit our bikes.

Im about 6-1. Not to high. These get my arms a touch less than level (I have some Jims spacers on there so they are about an inch taller already).
How was it transitionaing from regualr bars to the apes...if you remeber?

Ha!! I'm told that somehow my last few decades of a certain recreational pastime may have effected my aaaa... what's it called...? Memory. Or else it's just plain ol' getting old(er) or a combination of both but no, ummm... wait a minute... hold it... what were we talking about...? Ummmm, yeeumm... oh yeah ape bars. Nope, I don't remember the transition!!

If you like the look of them getting used to new bars is a blast. Ive had four different sets on this bike and am now back to stock. Stock, Speedmaster drags, 18's, and 16's. Each transition was easy. You wont Know for sure untill you ride the new off of them. Its my opinion that the stock america bars dont look the best but after two years with apes I feel like friggin Evil Kenevle. The bars you have picked out look super cool. I think they would look awsome on our bikes and hopfully not compromise the ridability much. please post some pics if you decide to go with them.

What's the specs on the bars? I put on a set of 12" HD Heritage bars two years ago and love them. They are more narrow than the factory bars and obviously taller. I like the angle where they put my wrist and don't care for buckhorn type that ****** (geez, blanked out the word cocke...)the wrist. The HD bars put my knuckles straight out, like a jab in boxing.

I have some HD bars on mine also, and love them. They only raised my arms up a couple inches, which I wanted because I'm tall. I had no trouble at all adjusting. I've heard that you should be careful with how high you should go due to hand falling asleep and what not, but don't know from experience. I really like the way those RSD bars look, they're hella expensive though, like over 300 bones, right? Here's a pic of my HD bars.

Thanks for the pic. Great looking ride there.

So....did you use the oem cables or did you need new ones?

I know I really like them! BUT...add up the price of bars and new cables and throw in the off chance I may not like the riding position and it only stays at a crush and not full blown love...yet.

The higher your hands get, the harder it is to maneuver at low speed ( turning the bars, and not tilting the bike ) because your external arm goes up and your waist has to follow the shoulder movement. The closer you bring your hands together, the more fatigue you will get in your back shoulders area, but you will eventually strentghen out.

IMO, if you go with bars that has a rise in them, you might want to have to lowest risers. I.E.: 3" Risers + 7" Rise Bars, or 1" Risers + 10" Rise Bars.

Thanks for the compliment Z! I kept the OEM cables, just had to re-route the throttle side cables to the other side of the neck(easy). I'm thinking if you go for those bars you wouldn't need new cables, unless you wanted some nice braided ones.

The pressure is on, Zdenko. Nelson is coming up fast. What else are you going to scramble to change before then to beat last year's showing? Oh wait, there's only one way to go... down...

Other than a black Speedmaster front fender and no sissybar my bike is going to look exactly the same.

But I did buy some aluminum today to build a luggage rack like yours. Heck, maybe I should go for the lay-down license plate bracket too, since my new paint won't be done...

No scrambling here...just looking at things I like and asking for feedback.
I am starting to wonder WHY YOU keep bringing up this whole competition thing at Nelson. Its like your worried or something. We all know a cruiser wont take it again for a few years (Ill have to get crackin for next year maybe).

no it wont...itll have that shiny new scottoiler mounted on that nice chain of yours.

Hey...seriously though...you might want to think about bringing a spare battery along with you this year

It was pretty over the weekend. Today it's cloudy and rainy. Should be nice again by Friday. How's life in Torrance?

Here's a shot of my HD Heritage bars. No wire or cable changes necessary. I wouldn't want the front brake line any more taunt, but it's OK.

Well the forecast calls for miles of concrete and gridlock with a mix of rioting Lakers fans and LAPD beat downs. Basically a normal day in LA.

I'm digging these new 8" Chumps bars from Biltwell.
http://www.biltwellinc.com/Bars.html

Using the stock cables/wires would be no problem. If my wires weren't in my 10" HD bars, I'd swap for these.

Hands go to sleep easier if your hands are above your heart. Control can be hard at first but get used to it pretty fast.
