Hello,
BOy it has been a long time since I have been on here. The bike has been performing so well that I took a long break. Well, now that performance period has expired and I am running into a problem. At first I thought it was fuel related. Now, I am beginning to believe it is more on the electrical side - more specifically the ignition. My problem begins as such:
My communte to work is about 26 miles. The bike has been running well for about 24 of those. THe last two miles are down an old residential street that has not been resurfaced for quite some time. THe pavement is relatively smooth but where they paint the striping it is rough. THey have painted and repainted and repainted so many times that the cross walk striping and stop line striping is more like a speed bump. When I ride over these, the bike starts to sputter and want to cut out. So at a stop light I shoved my hand under the tank and tapped on the ignition wire and the bike cut out. Fired it up. Did the same action and the bike killed itself. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I want to make sure it is the ignition wires and not the coil or some other grounding problem. I don't really want to pay the dealer 70 bucks to run a diagnostic on it either since I am about 80% sure what the problem is. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
The problem is intermitent. Sometimes it will run great for days. Then, all of a sudden it will start acting up for no reason. I will play with the ignition wires and it will act up a couple more times and then be ok for awhile and then go to acting up. I don't get it but it is frustrating! I can give more detail in responses to any questions or solutions. Well, if I do not get any responses I will start tearing into it on my own and post my findings for others in the future.
Thanks,
Geoff
