I just got back from my free demo ride. There were no XR 1200's but I rode a Night Rod. It was really weird because the foot pegs were way out front but the bars were short. I took me a few miles to get used to it. But OMG... that engine. I opened it up on a portion of old Route 66 and it's a high revying screamer. I would never buy one because the riding postion is just too awkward and uncomfortable. The salesman said they have a "Macho" version where the foot pegs are closer. "Macho" version, give me a break, who comes up with these names?

I saw a bright orange Screaming Eagle Street Glide that stickered at a cool 30 grand. Oh well it was a good way to kill a couple of hours on a Saturday morning and I'm signed up for my free $150 worth of gas.

And yes there was a guy there on staff that said he was an old British bike guy plus I didn't get beat up becuase there was a sea of Harley's there before they all went riding. That's always a good thing. I kind of wish that was the way it was at our Triumph dealership. Camaraderie...hmmm what a novel concept.

It's safe to assume I will never become a Harley owner, though.
