Just bought a Bonne SE and am looking forward to a new and different ride. Dread the breakin time, but slow and sure for a long life with the SE.

Welcome Dennis. Keep us posted on how well you're liking that SE. Thinking of getting one for my girlfriend. And if she doesn't want it, well then, I guess I'll just have to give it a home.

Break-in time?

My dad use to race a stock car in the ARCA circuit around Detroit. When the subject of break-in came up, he would say "Absolutely!, one hour before loading onto the trailer, and five laps before WFO.!".

Gurdy, interesting concept. I have heard this breakin approach before at motortune.usa.

My brother is looking at an SE, he was all set on the whole HD thing until he realized the price differences.

After all, that's alot of extra cash just so the cool kids will let you in thier club...

Good luck with the Bonnie and Ride Safe!

ArGee 14 Thunderbird LT Wasn't sure if Red or Black was faster, so I got a Red & Black one...

I know about the "the club." I've been riding a Ducati for the last 5 years and felt the SE was a good move for an older rider. Looking forward to a good basic ride.

Hey Dennis, you might like the article in the latest(July '09) "Cycle World" by Peter Egan about him ridin' a new SE around New Orleans.

(BTW...I took a demo ride on that puppy a while back...NICE BIKE!!!...it handles better than any previous Hinckley-built Bonnie I've ridden yet!!!...oh, and welcome to the site, dude!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Took the SE for 160 mile yesterday. Ran great and weather here in PA was sunny and warm. Noticed the speedo is really off, registering 77 at 65 mph. Is this common or should the speedo be fixed?

I know the speedo on the America/Speedmaster is off by about 5mph at speeds over 30mph.
You dont need no stinking speedo anyway!

only thing you can do to adjust the speedo is to install a taller front tire.

Welcome dennis. When I bought my 05 speedmaster the speedo was about 15 mph off. I told the dealer I wanted a new speedo and they put one on. % miles off seems to be the norm but anything over that I would demand a new one.

Rock that engine between 3000 rpm and 5000 rpm on an interstate for 500 miles and you are there. Just don't red line it or stay at any given rpm. Breakins are really old school thinking. These bikes have close tolerances.Mine is fine as wine at 7500. The dealor told me it was done broken in at 500. He was right. It burns no oil. Stay with the 15-50 Mobile 1 Triumph oil and filter at the 500 mile change.
Stay away from those stupid mods. They will screw up your bike.

2008 BA, Ageon Blue, roadster shield, light bar. tach, big bags, square engine guard, short sissy with rack. All Triumph parts. No mods.

Which one of the mods are the stupid ones?

All of mine are stupid. Now I have a stupid fast and powerful bike that handles stupidly well. And it looks stupid too.

sounds like the guy I met at a RAT meeting a couple years ago...
He was saying how he hates how some guys put pipes on these bikes and remove the air box. I asked him if it was cause he couldnt keep up with them and walked away.
Made it a point to ride by him after the meeting.

More power to you if you can resist the want to tinker and get more power and better sound.

Not this guy! Nope...no way. Me...I love messing with this bike. Its easy to work on and I cant wait to do more stupid mods like bored out carbs, cams, pistons and some headwork.

But most importantly...ride it.

Plan to change the exhaust and mirrors this year. Any suggestions besides Arrow. Anything a good quality and fit in a 2 into 1 exhaust, but does require a chip update?

Dennis, this website has lots about the Bonnevilles. I think somebody else told you about it already. But this link is to a comparison of the different exhausts on them.
I think I saw a 2-1 on there.

Yeah, tried that site. Only found one 2 to 1 which didn't fix my interest. Any other 2 to 1 exhaust suggestions?
