Over 800 miles in one day? The most I've ever done was 546 miles on a Harley Softail.

Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

Thanks. The fall foliage should be peaking in the next few weeks. Perhaps that would be a good time to go.

Sorry I missed the ride this year, guys. I was in Gulf Shores (Fort Morgan, actually), Alabama for my wedding on the beach at sunset last Saturday. The weather there was absolutely perfect. I honestly tried to get my wedding date changed to accomodate the rally, but I got "the look" when I suggested it, so I sort of backed off on that idea...

We're back in Little Rock, now.

Hope everyone made it home safe and sound, and I look forward to making next year's event.

P.S. Hey Paul. Did you kill any dogs again this year?

Congrats John! We hoisted drinks around the fire for you.

And Paul did have a little puppy run out in front of him, what is it about him that attracts dogs?

Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

For the haters here's my ride summary

Thanks. Was wondering if you still loved us. Lynn asked me on Tuesday when I was leaving to go on the rally. Right. Then she asked me on Saturday why I hadn't left. Right. Okay then. And now I hear of your ride to Dahlonega! Brilliant! Last year I stopped over at Trumpy's in Pensecola.
Next time you roll from Little Rock to Eureka Springs you need to do it in the daylight AND on the pig trail. Has your daytona ruin't you on the backroads? Jeez. Like US20. um that would be I-20. minor point? no. Last year, I made it to Clinton land after dark myself. Bout time I was going to pitch a tent, it started raining.

Quote:

The last leg of the trip (from Harrison to Eureka Springs) SUCKED because that huge front (it caused tornado warnings in MS and AL the next day when it moved through there) came through and I got soaked in the deluge (even with raingear). There were practically rivers in some of the streets. Bike electrics got wet and my filter pods were saturated so the bike was running like crap but she never cut out (phew!). Logged just over 800 miles that day.

What? No moe to slow you down with coffee stops? Or would that be float needles and front tire searches?

I bet you spent most of the day on Friday sleeping.

So you lowsided? Dangit Why am I never around when you are having fun? Yeah I'm an assshole. so what? At least ya didn't low side in the restaurant parking lot.

Your ride tales bust me up! There you where about as scroungy as you could be. Heck rolling through all the puddles, skidding around in the mud then you get blood and guts all over you. Poor tweety bird. bird-strike biker cherry. Man. you are a Colombian Poet!

Check the tread on your tires when you clean your bumble bee eh?

Can't wait to roll with you again Greg! I miss the good times!

Hating you in Florida,
moe

Congratulations John, I guess if you have to miss the rally, that is a pretty good reason. Look forward to seeing you next year.

Do you remember what Hwy you were on when the pictures were taken of the elk? The next day off, I'd like to head that way. Maybe I'll be lucky and see a few.

To be exact that was Rte 74 between Ponca and Boxley. Right along the Buffalo River there are a couple fields where the elk hang out with the cows.

I only took the slab so I could make time coming home. As soon as I crossed into AL I got on 80 and took that all the way to Macon. Didn't see I-20 again until I got to Augusta. On my way to Eureka Springs I considered taking 55 to 63 and going along the top of the state but the welcome center where I stopped to get my map was already past the exit and after considering the time and distance I figured I better stay on the route I already planned out (I-40 to 65). Yes, I'm still using paper maps and pre-planning on Googlemaps/Mapquest without using a GPS. It certainly makes things more "interesting" if my papers get wet or I take a wrong turn and haven't been able to pick up a state map on the way. The LA welcome center exit was closed off completely and the AL one was closed for the night, never saw one on my route through MO, KS, OK, and TX.

I'm definitely going to check my tire tread during cleanup. Even on the way home the rear felt like it "floated" once or twice on a dry road while I made a left turn from a stop light. I think it had a lot to do with the weight distribution created by the top box. I'm sure I could have avoided the low-side if I had waited at the stop sign a little longer and waited for the cars to pass by. I think I leaned a little too aggressively for the road surface because the rear wheel just slid out from under me.

My guess is October...
There is a midwest rally in IL that will happen before the AR rally. The first one was last year and it happened in July if I remember correctly. It's put on by Scott aka KaisorSoze(a recent birthday boy too) and the first one was TOP NOTCH.
