It's good to see that folks are picking up on the idea that "bigger engine" doesn't necessarily mean "better bike."
I like the idea. I think they're too expensive for what they are, but I REALLY like the idea. I'm also curious to see if/when JT Nesbitt (formerly of Confederate Motorcycles, designer of the Hellcat) has anything to say about the design, and that yes, there is a VERY strong Hellcat influence in the look and design.
But I like the idea very much. I'm pretty convinced that between the technological advances in motorcycles (making the modern ones absurdly powerful for the street) combined with a growing market of new riders (fuel economy, fun, urban practicality, etc) that neither want nor need 100+ HP bikes, we'll be seeing more of these type scoots.
Also, note from the MAC website:
Quote:
Stock motors produce 34 HP at 6500 RPM but a bolt-on big-bore kit (515 cc), Andrews Cams, a Mikuni HSR 42 carb', Screamin' Eagle ignition and a Supertrapp exhaust will produce around 50 HP at 7200 RPM.
That's a better power/weight ratio than the Bonnies, I think. Certainly better than a Bonnie (or variant) out of the box.
Then again, someone should also point out that these things are NOT stock Blast engines -- I think they come "stock" with the 515cc kit, which makes them a lot quicker than you think -- and might even justify the cost, at least a little, especially considering they really are "custom" bikes.
Yay.
