I use a big, fat o-ring occasionally that does the same thing as the ponytail holder, friction fit. You do have to stop to remove it, with gloves on. If you put the o-ring on only halfway,you can roll it off with a gloved hand. I've done this when entering towns with traffic, stoplights, etc. It's great for just giving the brief option of shaking that throttle hand and the price is right.
Give it a try, you only have $1 to lose. Doesn't feel right, toss it into the wind (or preferably the trash...)

I thought about the pony tail holder, but looks like it would be to hard to get it out of the space between the throttle and the housing when I need to remove it.
