Is there really only 2 options for Throttle locks on our bikes, Either the Breakaway, or the one NewSpeedmaster has? And from what I understand, no one has said if it works with the Kury grips. Didnt I read somewhere that you could take an old Vista Cruise for 7/8 bars and hone it out to work on our 1"inch bars?

I use a throttle rocker just rest my palm on it to relax my fingers.

I have the Kury throttle boss, the one that mounts to the end of the grip, but still have issues with my fingers falling asleep. I need something I can temporarily lock the throttle so I can let my hand down to get get the blood flow back to it,,lol.

Hey Rick...I have a throttle ROCKER you can have if you want to try it. Also, I had a throttle LOCK on my bike for awhile. It didn't work too well in my opinion and if you want to rest your hand for a bit maybe look into a cruise control...just a thought.

yaknow those elastic things women wear to make a pony tail. Like a soft rubber band. Anyhow, take one of them double it over your grip. When you want a throttle lock slide one of the strands between the control body and the grip. wedge it in pretty good. Set your speed and take your hand off. Works fine for me for about as long as I want to take my hand off. Pretty inexpensive too

What was wrong with it? I've been thinking about getting one to relieve the carpal tunnel effect.

I use these. Very nice. If you have small hands, you probably won't like. I get on a bike with regular grips now and it feels like I am gripping tricycle handlebars. Cruise Control Grips

Breakaway here...love it...works with Kurys (with modifications of course).

I just called them to check which would fit. Basically any of the ones that fit the one inch bars. Very helpful. I suggested they add Triumph to their bike list - guess they haven't. Also, you will need to dremel off the small ribs on your Triumph throttle sleeve to fit these. The sleeve that comes with the grip is pretty chincy in my opinion. It will work, but a few minutes with a dremel was a better route in my opinion.

web page looks cool and i see they make them for triumph's don't see our bike but i bet you could cross it over from one of the other bikes to ours.... Ed

Like I said...a cruise control would be good b/c you keep a consistent speed. With the throttle-lock, it just locks the throttle at whatever position you locked it in. I found that it took a while to set a position that didn't have a slight gain in throttle or the opposite. In addition, slight hills would force you to adjust the throttle and throw everything off again. It was just too much work trying to find a somewhat consistent speed to hold at for a while.

We have mountains. Cruise control is useless on my bike. I just use a throttle rocker so I can continually adjust my speed but not aggravate my carpel tunnel. I might get some sort of lock just for taking my right hand off the bars occasionally and shaking it out but it wouldn't be very often.

I thought about the pony tail holder, but looks like it would be to hard to get it out of the space between the throttle and the housing when I need to remove it.

I use a big, fat o-ring occasionally that does the same thing as the ponytail holder, friction fit. You do have to stop to remove it, with gloves on. If you put the o-ring on only halfway,you can roll it off with a gloved hand. I've done this when entering towns with traffic, stoplights, etc. It's great for just giving the brief option of shaking that throttle hand and the price is right. Give it a try, you only have $1 to lose. Doesn't feel right, toss it into the wind (or preferably the trash...) Quote:

Are they smaller or bigger then normal grips? I have looked at the site, and Price is alot better the $200 for the Breakaway one. But really dosnt give much info on them other then how to install them

The SAC grips look nice but I have questions on how they fucntion.
* How do you engage? Looks like some sort of wheel you turn with your thumb? Did it take much to get used to?
* After its engaged do you still have control of the throttle if you need to increase or decrease speed?
* If its engaged and you need to suddenly brake hard...does the grip stay engaged or does it somehow release under braking?
I like the SAC stingray grips and have been thinking about a set but dont want to give up any safety features I have with my Breakaway.

Ok, I think I am liking these. The only time I would need the cruise was on a long trip to give my hand time to rest from time to time. So which ones did you order for or as long as it was 1"inch bars did it matter?

No was asking about the SAC Grips, I know which breakaway would work, just steep price was hoping for something a bit cheaper.

I've used the same grips as Airguy for over three years and still love them. CoolSac has some good stuff. Get the ones for 1 inch bars and use your throttle barrel from your stock grips. For cruise control, I use a rubber "O" ring between the grip and control housing. When you do this, you lose the zero throttle when released, or you have to turn your throttle back to idle - never been a problem for me. It's like my old 1975 Oldsmobile Toronado airbag, it worked, but you had to blow it up yourself.  These grips are just the foam grips you find for $15 at any bike shop with a quality leather cover. I'll buy them again, but may choose the stingray leather next time.

I use the Kury throttle boss myself and find with the iso grips it works well for me. I guess we all find out something that works for us. 
Staintune Pipes, K&N Pods, 45 pilots, TBS needles and 145 mains.

I also use an O-ring at the end of the throttle grip. I don't use it much except on 500 mile trips. I don't seem to have a problem lightly resting my palm against the throttle to maintain speed. I roll the Oring over and then roll it back when done and I want the throttle to be able to spring return to zero position when letting go of the throttle. I guess I may not know what I am missing. All my friends have throttle locks and cruise control. I just don't feel I need it. In fact, I rarely use the O-Ring and end up forgetting it is there. I have to replace in every couple of years when it breaks off due to sun damage.

I sprung about $185 for the Breakaway and have not regretted it. I just changed it from my 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 w/ 3/4" bars to my 2005 Speedy w/ stock grips. The unit mounts entirely on the grip, not the throttle sleeve. The construction is unique, works smooth as silk when set correctly, and unlike any other lock it will instantly disengage if you touch the front brake handle. It can be adjusted in any direction as necessary and has a very sensitive foolproof lock and release, even w/ heavy gloves on. Need I say more?

Can't agree more!  I've had my BrakeAway for three years and would never use anything else. It's the only one the will release automatically when you hit the front brake. Let me see those O rings do that in a panic stop! Quote:

That's the one I ordered today. Do you think I will have to modify my Kuryakyn grips? I spoke to Ernie today, his Breakaway is a few years old and he had to grind off part of the grip housing. It would be nice it if didn't need any modifications. Quote:

I love my brakeaway too.
I think its time to adjust it though...I find that on rough road it likes to release.

No mods should be needed. I put mine on last summer and the Breakaway slipped right over the Kury grips. Use a bit of soapy water on the grips and the unit will slip right over the rubber. Used mine today on a long ride and it was a great to to have.

Hey, that's good to know, thanks for the pix. My unit didn't arrive today, apparently Cruiser Customizing doesn't ship real fast... Too bad, we're going out for a 200+ mile ride tomorrow. Better ice up the hand... I'll post when it shows and gets installed. Quote:

Shutterbug: Did you use one of the rubber strips? Even the thin one doesn't appear that it would slip between the Breakaway ring and the grip housing. Do the set screws just go agains the chrome of the Kuryakyn grip? Quote:
