Just picked up a tire repair kit from Canadian Tire http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/...epair%2BKit.jsp Really impressed with the price and quality of the kit. The bag includes 5 CO2 cartridges, 5 plugs, a rasp tool, plug insert tool, glue, regulator, hose and small utility knife. The zippered pouch measures 7.5 x 4.25 x 2 inches in size. Quality looks good. Best thing about it is the price. $29.95 Canadian. Of course our US kin would get this a lot cheaper given the exchange. This kit is for tubless tires only. Now I can have some peace of mind on the highways.

I just had a rather lengthy discussion with a bike shop owner while they were fittin' my new Dunlop on the front of the BA. He said there's very little difference in effectiveness between carrying a rather complex kit that plugs, glues and inflates vs. a simple can of Flat-Fix. In fact, he said the biggest difference is that the plugged tire can later be patched (inside), depending on the location of the puncture, whereas the tire drenched in Flat-Fix can't. Given the risk of riding longterm on a patched tire, that doesn't seem like a valid reason to go to any more trouble than necessary. I have to make this decision myself pretty soon, so I'm wondering if anyone here has ever had a bad experience with the Flat-Fix stuff? I use my Ba for daily commuting, so I only ever really need to ride it for 15 miles max with a reinflated tire.

Flat fix advantages: open valve cap, spray in, ride
Disadvantages: Tyre U/S
Puncture repair kit are a semi permanent (can be permanent) repair
Tyre can / may be fixable
3rd Option: the puncture GOO stuff the Army use in their vehicles: will seal a punture instantly, helps weight the tyre to the road (minimal)
I have used the Flat Tyre stuff... had a nail in a tyre, got me out of trouble as I was going to a meeting but the ****** cost of the new tyre hurts bad.
My Advice: DONT use the flat tyre stuff...

This type of repair would appear to be a lot better than the standard plug kits I've used over the years for regular auto tires. Like the fact that the mushroom head locks the plug in place.

I carry the Slime (for tube tires) and the small Slime air compressor on trips, but I've never had to use it. I figured it might get me to where I could get the tire fixed. I figure the tube is history anyway - what harm can it do?

I should have mentioned that I was talking about tubeless tires only. Based on my experience with tube-type flats in the '70s and '80s, the only fix for those on the road is usually to install a new tube. I used to carry a tube for the rear and enough tools to pull the wheel and pry the bead off the rim. The front never went flat on any of my bikes. That reminds me, those bikes all had centerstands that would put the rear wheel in the air while I was fixing it.
Regarding patches on tubeless tires, I have no interest in riding on a repaired MC tire any longer than it takes to get home or to a bike shop. So, regardless of how the tire is temporarily reinflated, I still have to replace it. That's why I'm leaning toward the simpler method of just carrying a can of Flat-Fix.

+1 on this. i carry 6 CO2s/they take up very little room..........

The problem with Fix-A-Flat is that the stuff can lump up inside the tire and give you balance problems. Not such a big deal on a car, but on a bike I could see it being an issue.
