That interests me too. I'm old school and appreciate a not-so-beefy look. Ultimately I would like a springer front end on my bike. Someday.............

here are some shots of the process and the completed removal. you might not have the ideal view you were looking for; but at least it's an idea of how it will look. additionally, the lightbar and fork bag are gone now too. if i get some time later i will take and post some updated images for you.

Just changed my front springs to Progressive suspension ones but never considered leaving it that way.

I reckon it looked too skinny with the top shrouds off but I'm really happy with this.

The bars do look thin because the Yokes are designed for housing the shrouds... IMO it's still better looking then the shrouds.

Are the forks chrome under the shroud? Anyone got a step by step on this process? how do they come off, do the bars have to come off?

I've never worried about protecting the fork tubes either. My bike has been like this for 20,000 km and I have no damage to the fork tubes whatsoever. I have 40,000 km in total on the bike and no signs of seal leakage or anything else that might be detrimental.

The pic of your bike is what made me ask, it looks like you have some sort of chrome cap on there.

As far as protecting the fork tubes goes. think of how many bikes over the years have not had anything covering or protecting the tubes. Really not a concern,I think they are hard chromed.

My bike is on the far left. Got fork protectors off a T bird I think, and painted the forks and upper shrouds.

ok that's not as close a shot as I thought.... Here's a frontal shot. I didn't take these, and not for the purpose of showing the forks, but you get the idea....

Cool. It's interseting how many have left the upper shrouds on while removing the lowers. That would solve my turn signal dilemma, much to the chagrin of FriarJohn.

Benny, is there a thread where you talk about those lights next to the headlight and how you mounted them?

+1 on that look, after looking around in this thread I might just have to do this! maybe powder coat the uppers while I'm at it.

I thought someone else would chime in on this. I bought my bike with the lowers already removed. But Ive read that you have to drop the tubes down to get them off. Im pretty sure the lower shrounds cant slide downward because of the fender tab mounts. So loosen the pinch bolts on the triple trees, make sure your bike is strapped down cause the weight without the tire will make the bike fall backward, take the front tire off, caliper etc, slide the forks down the both the trees. Im not sure how the uppers are held on, but the lowers have mounting tabs inside holding them to the lower yoke.

Probably somewhere.... They are just the JC Whitney 55W lights, they come chrome, I blacked out the buckets to match the headlight. I just bend up some aluminum tabs and mounted them to the light bar mounting holes, which also mounts my Ma's signal bracket. LOTS of trial and error on the angle and then adjusting the light brackets to get them pointed straight... But it works!
