Sorry Steve..... NOT!

Yeah, I think I'll take a looooooong run down the Blue Ridge Parkway. There's an inroad about 15 miles from where I will be staying. Going to have to take a face mask though. Otherwise, it will take me an hour to wipe the bugs off my shite eating grin!!!!!!!!!

If possible take some pictures! I miss the Blue Ridge and Skyline drive(The Virginia end) I used to ride skyline drive at least once a month when I lived in VA Beach. Some beautiful mountain roads. But CHY's promising the same for Northern Ga. See Ya'll in 9 days!!!!

Chy,
Was in Dahlonega yesterday (Monday) trying to get a feel of where everything is....I finally found the "Econo-Lodge" after riding all around town a couple times. You have pick up "Bus 19" out of the square to find it..It's nowhere near the school. Looks like there's plenty of room in the back for "social gatherings". We should make sure the pool is open by then, as it was covered yesterday. I actually found Wash Rider Road too, I did'nt know if it was West Ash Rider, or Wash Rider....now I do. Not sure which house was yours though...Went on up to Suches and through Wolf Pen, where I met a moron on the wrong side of the road, let me tell ya, closest call yet! I locked down my rear and hugged the white line to the right so that when he hit me, at least I would be stopped. After my heart caught up, headed back to Hiram....really nice (but scary) ride.....When you guy's go up 180 (Wolf Pen) or the Dragon, PLEASE be ready for collision at all times. I was ready for collision, and escaped. Had I even been in the center of my lane, I would still be in the hospital. Assume there is gonna be traffic in your lane and you will be o.k.

Nowhere near the school? If you stand with your back to the front of the Econolodge then look slightly to the left, you are looking at the parking lot, football field and gymnasium, 100 yards beyond that is the elementary and middle schools and old high school. A half mile to the north and you will find the new high school. Business 19? there are only four roads out of Dahlonega and as best I remember that sign at the red lite says 19/60 north, if it says business 19, it's a new sign to me.
Sorry you had a hard time finding the motel but it is on the city map found on the link I supplied to Dahlonega Chamber of Commerce on the first post of this thread. Then the info was given once again along with my address on page 30 of this thread with my last update
"Basic info once again:
Address: 709 WAsh Rider rd. Dahlonega, Ga.
Maps, both local and area are available on the Dahlonega website. Mapquest knows where we live so just ask and they'll get you to our front door. "
I can see however how the typo(WAsh Rider rd.) could be misleading and I do apologize, I will correct it immediately.
Again, I apologize for any inconvenience or error in directions..

Latest update...
I got a call today from a guy named Matt Weinert.... heckuvva nice guy who is as some of you probably already know, the Rat coordinator for North America. I knew it I suppose , it just never dawned on me who I was talking to for a couple of minutes. I only wish I could have been just a bit more coherent but he called just as I was nodding off... and yes I was at work. shhhhh...
Anyway, he wanted to introduce himself and confirm our planned trip to Newnan on May 5th. He wanted to be sure to be there and was looking forward to meeting us. Shoot we're moving up in the world folks.
So good things for BA.Com and 8 more days to GR'06.

Somebody remind me to ask Matt why they cancelled the Galena Raid. It was supposedly the largest event they had.

Glad to hear this about Matt. He seemed somewhat aloof at Bike Week. I am purposefully not riding this week to prevent further preparation, cleaning. In swimming, they would call this tapering before a big meet.

See y'all real soon.

Matt is a pretty nice guy. He's definitly the Rat guy tho, meaning he has to be the face of the company to everyone, so maybe that's why he didn't seen too personable at bike week. At the New England raid (also cancelled) he was joking around and what not with us, but we were on a ride with like 10 people... I doubt you'll get anything other than the standard canned answers on why they cancelled stuff tho, just because he's been asked it a bajillion times by all of us pack leaders and I'm sure he's got the quick n dirty version down pat!

Hey Chy, what is the possibility of going up to the Dragon on this rally? Should I bring big bucks to pay for $3 a gallon gas?

Chys not planning on the Dragon, its too far away, he has some GA mountains for us to explore, and we've got to meet the Head of the Rats in Newnan.
Chy, I hope Accuweather is wrong because it looks like Rain gear will be standard equipment!!

I just checked the Weather Channel 10 Day Forecast. May 4 and May 5 are forecasted 0% chance of rain and sunny.

Considering their track record for accuracy I wonder if that is a good thing?

Won't be the first time we've got wet... matter of fact last year was the first year we didn't.... and they predicted rain.
I wouldn't worry much about what the weather forcasters say.. like I always say.. when they can tell me what it's going to do tomorrow, then I'll be concerned what they say about next week.

We were going to run the Dragon but it came to light that the Mini Coopers are going to be there that weekend and that combined with the usual kamikazee sport bikes made that too risky a venture. Besides at somewhere around 300 miles round trip,it takes most of the day to get there and back... We'll be staying in Georgia again this year...
And yes... gas is already 3.00 a gallon...

I'm coming one way or another, but if the weather looks bad for the ride down or the ride home, I'll just drive. Brent already told me I could ride shotgun in the rental For me it's about friends, and altho I LOVE riding, two days of highway riding in the rain just isn't worth it! But I WILL be there.

I will be leaving my house monday morning.
Speaking of mondays.
this monday I was on my last shake down ride to work out the
bugs and tuning issues when my clutch cable broke and let me
sitting on the side of the road.
this is the first time I have be stranded.
I was riding with my friend and he returned home and got his
truck and tailer.

It could be the barnett clutch springs are to much for the
braided cables belacorse sells, not sure.
but they have been on the bike almost a year.
I found a guy to fix the cable and I am back on the road.
I now have no adjustment in the cable, to slacken.
All I can do is tighten, but it works and I will be in GA.

PS ... wait till you see the great touring monster.
Full bags and filler panels in the crash bars.

I can't help myself
somebody stop me.

Frankly I'm a little dissapointed

Actually guys, when it rains on you all day and you're doin time on the slab, it's just no fun anymore!! And like I said, it's the people I'm going for, even if they are a buncha jerks!!

Seriously tho, last year I found out I have a (very) mild case of MS, add to that a touch of asthma, and if I get too hot I'm uncomfortable, and if I get a chest cold it could make for a REALLY bad ride... We'll see! If you see a green Liberty pull up with a pink skirt around it, you know which choice I made

Hey snekeptp,
My clutch cable broke 3 weeks ago. First outright part failure in 42,000 miles. I was about two miles from a repair shop so I kept riding and got lucky with the traffic. The shop didn't have a cable that fit, so they pulled mine and replaced just the cable. I too, had no adjustment, but I couldn't get it tight enough. The clutch would not fully disengage. I heated the ferrule on the top end to melt the solder and cut a half inch off. Resoldered, and it's good now. Sounds like your cable is too short, if I am thinking right.
Next week, you'll get to see your old touring seat. I ordered my Rick Mayer saddle the first week of March, so my build date is May 5th. I was really wanting to break it in at GR06, but I'll have to wait the full 10 weeks for my new seat. Rick's Winter turnaround is 5-6 weeks - Summer is 12 weeks. I guess I ordered in the middle somewhere.
See you Wednesday!

Ride Safe, Dennis Triumph, it's how I live and what I ride.
