I just got promoted and will be transferred to our Dublin,VA facility with in the next few weeks. Went there once already and like the hilly terrain. I'm already lusting after the mountain roads and love the fact that I'm real close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. My wife is already worried that she won't see much of me during the ridding season! Any one familiar with the area, especially regarding the roads?

That area is sweet. Fancy Gap is where I usually exit the BRP when heading home. Mt Airy: Ode to Mayberry. Riding season. Living in Florida, I can't figure the commercials for outdoor lawn furniture, grills and such. Summer is too hot to be outside in the heat of the day (unless your riding). Why anyone would say that summer is the time to get the stuff to take it outdoors in florida is beyond me. Northern southerners and Yanks, yeah. Summer, is, take it outside, finally!

I live in NoVA but have ridden through that area -- you'll be VERY happy with the roads. Damnsight better than Indiana, I'd wager. Welcome to the Old Dominion! --Jaeger

Wow Jaeger, what a coincidence!
There's a guy just down the road from me who lives in his Nova too!
Yep! He used to live in a full size Impala, but since this economy went south on us all, he's had to DOWNGRADE his accomodations!!!
(sorry for the cheap joke there James....congrats on the promotion, and here's to you finding your move to Virginia being an UPGRADE!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Indiana is not bad at all. In southern and small portion of central Indiana there are some nice roads and more than you would think. I'm sure that once I have a taste of the Old Dominion I'll be spoiled rotten.

Also, you'll not be very far from VIR, in alton,va. If you're around in august. You should check out the superbike race there. Its a beautiful track and generally a good time. I usually go every year. Its very cool, if you like speed.....

I would be more interested in nostalgia races, not going to have the time to do much else anyway. We are going to see Jamestown, Yorktown, and Colonial Williamsburg.

Used to drive through VA all the time when I lived in Delaware, Beautiful State. Mild winters too, much unlike the winters here in the midwest.

I was over in the Dublin neck of the woods the other weekend for the Redwing 19 ride. Very georgeous area. Sounds to me like the VA riders are going to have to gather again for a weekend ride at the end of summer.
Dog, when will you be in the Williamsburg area? I'm just down the road in Norfolk.

Since we are going to move to VA That's going to be our next trip. Since history is one of my favorite subjects, I always wanted to go there. That's another thing I'm looking forward to, besides the roads, is the rich history that The Old Dominion has to offer. This is to my new nieghbors, thanks for the welcome!

Not really but since the attractions close at 5pm I had thought about doing some riding or hit a beach somewhere.

I have been to these places and actually saw and went places most people can't, my uncle was a park ranger at Colonial Williamsburg. It's really cool to see the things being done the way they did back then.

Virginia Beach is about an hour away on 64. Not exactly a nice ride, once you hit Hampton Roads, but the downtown offers all the usual beach stuff (and traffic). Quote:

Virginia is my dream ride. I have wanted to go to VA and tour all the civil war battle fields on my bike, then head back through Tenn. and hit some of those too. Can't think of a better way to see the history and topography than on a bike.
Congrats on your promotion and new move-figured I better comment on the original thread so I don't look like I'm hijacking-ha!

Might want to stop at Gettysburg along the way, we spent a week there touring the battlefields.

I grew up in PA and went to Dickinson College for awhile-till I transferred to Penn State, and my sister went to Gettysburg College-so I've seen those fields a lot. But always worth another visit. Some awesome history through there.
