Ah well, I said I was a dumbass, didn't I. After reading the replies to my post and then mining the performance posts, I decided to check my air filter. Well there was some crap in there, including an intact leaf.(don't ask what kind, I am a dumbass after all) So I blew out the filter with my compressor for a short term fix. Am ordering a new one tonight. Don't think I am up for a $300 airbox refit or the one described on the ghetto freak site. If this doesn't work, I'll think about rejetting.
But, my Haynes manual talked about pulling the bungs and checking for debris, etc. I scoured the entire airbox and couldn't find any.
BTW: A led booklight with a gooseneck is a fine tool to use to see into small spaces.
