As a matter of fact, we are going to be stopping by Coweta Custom Cycles while we're in Newnan. You might give them a call a couple of weeks ahead to be sure they have the parts..

Don't forget, you have to have the bike completely cold. That might cut into riding time...

Well we'll see how it goes. Sounds like we might have a whole afternoon for this kinda thing which would give it a few hours to cool off.

Latest rally news...

Well here's what we've got going on so far...

Meeting the Bonnie site guys... unfortunately this hasn't worked too well as any of you who frequent that site may already know. We had hoped to get the groups together in Franklin for dinner(lunch) but it seems their plans are to arrive from different directions at around 2:30 p.m. to eat. As we are planning supper(dinner) at home base that night, we can't be that far north at that time of day so it appears we just can't put that together. Sorry.. I tried...

Hi, y'all.. My name is Chris, "Chris in NC" over in the NTBF. I signed up for your forums with the sole intent of patting Donpen on the back for the work he's done on his Hinckley-powered Triton (as seen in your "Customs" section -Wow!.. what a bike!).

As y'all probably know (since it's been discussed on and off since January in this thread), we're holding our 3rd Annual NTBF Rally at the Gap on the same weekend as your Georgia Rally. I was there for last year's link up in Hiawassee (I still can't believe the nugs at Torque didn't print at least one photo of all those Hinckley twins in the parking lot..), and it was definitely an enjoyable event.

As discussed above, we sorta lean toward running the Dragon between Wednesday and Friday, or very early Saturday morning, since the squids come out of the woodwork on the weekends. That and competing for road space with an expected 350-400 Mini Coopers makes things a bit treacherous on the Dragon on the weekends, so we find other places to ride, and let them do their thing (thang).

I see where y'all have kicked around the possibility of linking up with us at Willy's (famous from the Travel Channel) BBQ in Franklin on Saturday - but you apparently have a BA.com dinner planned for that evening as well, and won't be able to make it due to the time it'll take you to get back to your rally site. That's understandable, so it looks like we won't have an "official" link-up this year - maybe next year we can work it out.

Just thought I'd let y'all know that we'll be in the area all weekend, and if you should happen to run into one of us, please don't hesitate to introduce yourselves and say hi. We'll do the same.

Wishing all y'all a successful and safe rally. Keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down.
Chris in NC

What Phil said. To maximize riding time, I am gonna try to knock out my valve check before May. I can watch what happens with Benny's bike and see what I did wrong!!!!!!!!

I don't have a micrometer, so I am hoping that no adjustment is necessary, but that wouldn't be inline with my usual luck.

Ride Safe.

Ryan

Okay, that is valve check, shock change, oil change, brake fluid, overall inspection and bolt tightnin'. Re-install the windshield, clean her up, and away we go!!!!!!!!

Ben,
Don't count on Triumph dealers stocking anything. I'll bring my feeler gauges, tork driver, Backlash gear pre-tensioning tool and lock pins. I'll even carry my spare cam cover gasket, that is if I don't use it before the rally

Ryan, I just changed my oil, put stainless steel screws in the carbs, cleaned them out real good, added Nology sparkplug wires, adde the Corbin and the fender bib, flushed gas cap, changed the sparkplugs and the list doesn't seem any shorter... still gotta wheel balance front wheel, solo peg finishers, valve job ( ???), and clean the ****** out the scoot... I am determined not to have the dirtiest bike at the rally this year.... oh, and I'm gonna practice turning off my turn signals before I get reminded miles later... ride safe.... Gordon

Hey Gordo, be careful on that long ride you got ahead of ya. Be sure to pack plenty of food in case you get stranded. Must be what, 10 minutes?

Dang it Pat, by the time I take three latte breaks, toilet stops, mall shopping, stretching and exercise stops, its gonna take the better part of an hour. For the good of the team, I am making full five minute trips to build up my tolerance and buttocks calluses, gonna work up to seven full minutes in a couple of weeks...... I should be up to ten minute rides by the rally...plenty of saddletime to keep up with you mamsey, pamsey girly northern riders Just remember the southern riding crew is gonna invade the north come September and oh yeah, we are bringing the rebel flag!!!!! ( not!!! ) I am soooo looking forward to this rally...... ride safe.... Gordon

I can relate to the blinker thing. I only had the bike two weeks, when the wife came home from work with a sticker she made. She put it on the handle bars so I will see it every time I glance down at the Speedometer or the Tach!
"Blinkers Dumby"
The sticker will still be there when I get to GA. It works!

Sixmil,
don't need a sticker, since my turnsignal button is mounted to the imaginary 40mm cannon mounted under my headlight. I'm constantly hitting that button trying to get cagers out of my way! Surprised I haven't bought a new button by now. Seriously though, out of nervous habit or whatever, I'm constantly hitting that thing to make sure I haven't left my blinkers on, but I love your wifes idea!!

I almost forgot the most important project. Re-wiring my driving lights so that I don't kill the battery when I forget to turn them off. In other words, my wiring directly to the battery has already cost me 1 new battery, which I needed anyway.

I ain't all that smart. Not like y'all didn't know that already.

ryan, wire them into either the low or high beams. when your lights are on that one the light bar will be on. i wired mine into the high beams and i never use low beam cuz i want to be seen. but when i am on low beam it is only the headlight that is on. its easy, no switches and no dead batt. and no wires going anywhere but to the headlight houseing.

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Mike,

How are your plans looking? I was planning on coming through Knoxville on Thursday, maybe noon or before. Are you still planning on leaving Wednesday? I have some flexability.

Hi Dennis, I had originally planned to head down on Wednesday. Why I'm not sure, probably just be in the way.
Most everyone will arrive on Thursday.
I would like to leave Knoxville around 9:30-10:00 Thursday morning.
It's only about 3 1/2 hours to Dahlonega. Get into town around 12-1:00 check in, grab some lunch and head over to Chy's.
Let me know if you want to meet up and I'll arrange a place.
Mike

Dennis,

Stewart (Roundy77) and my self are looking to leave on Wednesday. Plan on ooking up with Steve_SixMil outside of Indy. Do you want to try and coordinate and hook up for the ride down. I'm west of where Stewart is at. Figured I would ride east to hook up with him and then head southeast towards Indy. I have done some mapping out of a route and it takes us into/near Knoxville. Let me know if you want to try to make something work. Stewart/Steve, any comments or suggestions?

Dennis,

Cool! Maybe we can hook up with you and Mike in Knoxville. If I am not mistaken I think Stewart had mentioned something like that. I am thinking we can make K'ville on Wed. evening so we have a short ride into Dahlonega. I'll see what Stewart and Steve think. Anybody else coming in through Knoxville, maybe on I-24?

Matt, Jaymo, jane and I are probably coming in through K'ville on Wednesday around noon by my calculations. We are going to try to get to Chy's Wednesday afternoon so we can rest up and clean the bikes, then laugh at the rest of the crew as they roll in and we're all rested and half in the bag.
Last year wojo and I hit Kville right around lunch time. Stopped for lunch at a nice little diner about 5 miles north of the 129 cutoff over to the Dragon. We rode that way down and went through the Dragon on the way, and around the big lake. Very nice riding. Ended up at Chy's about 3pm if memory serves me right.

The T-shirts have been ordered! This years shirts will be black just like all the really good looking motorcycles. Did I say that? Sorry... It won't be long now.. 29 days by my count so start getting them primed and ready.
By the way.. Steve Sixmil sent me this link , good info. Thought it might come in handy.

Where are you guys starting from on Wednesday? I'm probabaly staying overnight in Lexington, KY and going down I-75 to Knoxville. As I recall it's a hilly, curvy ride going into Knoxville from the North on I-75. I think the speed limit is at least 70.

Well, I'm in FLA right now on a month long 4-wheeled power trip around the states... Due back in Michigan April 29! I'm going to be there, though, with Tamara on her bad little Honda... with a Tent and case of beer bungied wherever it'll fit! Looking forward to seeing everyone... Chy, any chance you ordered a few extra tees for the hairy traveler and his lovely lady?
I don't seem to be getting your email updates either... that would be cool since I don't seem to log on here as much as I would like....

Hope everyone's well! See you all soon...

Ben!

Another tour? Two years ago it was on your sickle. Now in a cage. Another couple of years and what's left to tour on? A bicycle?

Lynn and I will see you and Tamara at Wash Rider Road this early May!

PS: Are you trying to displace Yota? What with referring to yourself as a hairy traveler and all!
