My Father-in-law's Vespa is taking up scape in my garage, so I figured I'd try to get it running right so it can leave my garage. I's a 2006 Vespa px150. Only has 169 miles on it, sits there most of the time. I got it started and it runs ok, but when giving it throttle, it just bogs down under high rpms. I'm guessing the carb is gummed up and needs to be cleaned out. Problem is, I don't know what I'm looking at. Looks like a weed wacker engine to me, and I don't even know what the carburetor looks like on this thing. Anyone got any pointers?

Probably only on it's second tank of fuel in 3 years at 169 miles, I would say bad gas and dirty carb. Take a pic of the motor and post it.

Fuel tank was drained because it was in storage for a year (moving co) filled it up last summer and I put sta-bil in it in the fall. I'm hoping I don't have to drain the fuel. I'll get a pic of the motor.

Tell him to come get it out of my garage! I would ride it around a bit but I'm a big guy and the vespa is tiny, I look like a tool on that thing. I sure as ****** wouldn't want anyone I know to see me on it! Maybe I'll put my leather jacket on, take some pics on the thing just for laughs!

Are you sure it's a PX? IIRC that is a 2 stroke.
My "2nd bike" is a 2008 Genuine Rattler 110 2-stroke. The thing is a laugh riot. It will run approx. 60 MPH flat-out, gets 70MPG, & turns on a dime. I use it for local errands. There is plenty of storage under the seat & it has a rear rack.

Yeah, it's 2 stroke. Gotta put oil and gas in.

Try SCOOTDAWG.com. It's mostly China scoots, but there are some Vespa experts there too.

If it fires up but doesn't want to run above idle revs it could be sucking in air from somewhere. Is the carb mounted on a rubber inlet manifold ?? Rubber trunking from the airbox to the carb ?? Might be worth checking that nothing is split as the bike has just been standing....rubber may have dried out and hardened ??

Follow the hose from the fuel tank, it has to go to the carb at some point. It'll probably look a lot like the one on a lawnmower. Most of those are 2 strokers, so it will more than likely be bolted to the crankcase.
I really liked the way that guy fixed the one he stole from Sting at the end of Quadraphenia....
