I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I'd like to get rid of the "George Foreman grill" sprocket cover on my Speedy and don't want to pay $75 for the crescent-moon shaped cover they've got at BC. Anybody got something different? Other ideas?

Is your george foreman chrome? I'd buy it if it was which would help out on the other price tag.

There's always the Bonneville T-100 cover. But that's still at least $75. If you're handy with tools at all you could make your own, something like this, but cut out your own design and maybe do it out of aluminum. The spacers would be easy enough to obtain. You could also grind and cut down your George Foreman grill into something like this again with your own design.

Yeah, that's probably the route I'll go... I might have to borrow some tools, but it does sound like a fun project...

i got a bonneville sprocket cover for $35 off pinwheel cycles on ebay. Just gotta be patient.

I did this on Wendy's bike, it looks better in person the lighting makes it look scratched up. The rose is a blue dot I am going to eventually put a light behind.   And I did this to my cover.  I machined the area out and inset the buckle.

I used a bench top belt sander to remove the fins, then a dremel to carve the design. The aluminum was a consistant density though and you can see where the fins were if you look really close in person. Even when polished up fresh the metal is a slightly different color where the fins were.

A nice coat of chrome will take care of that.

We are going to chrome it eventually, the aluminum is a pain to keep shiny. It was a money thing why it wasn't chromed from the start. I'll have to pop that Blue dot out because we want that to stay pewter. It's held in with JB weld, I hope I can work it loose when the time comes.

Looks great! (better than on the T-bird IMO). How much did the powder coating run you?

You're obviously a visionary.  I thought about doing what you did and drilling a pattern of "speed holes" into it. But there's a computerized waterjet cutting machine 90 miles from here so I might steal one of the other ideas and design my own plate with those spacers.

I made my own plate one time out of diamondplate, made from a tracing of that lexan one, I got from triumphdetroit. I actually didnt like it cause it shows the bare metal on the casing. Its really ugly under there on a normal bike that hasnt been in a studio for pictures.
If anyone wants the tracing to use as a template I'll be glad to look around for it and email it to you.

Can't remember, but powdercoating is quite cheap and also quite forgiving when it comes to the prep job. I'd guess 10-15 clams.

Don't feel too bad, Triumph copied from a lot of folks while designing the T-Bird.

Ian... your work on the cover is awesome! And Bengt... as usual I love you sense of vision and creativity. As for me, I wimped out and ordered a T100 chrome cover but it will be better than the George Forman grill. Love what you all come up with. Your ideas will make my ride a better bike in the end.
