I have just put in my puter a new motherboard ASUS M4N72-E and also AMD 2.7 and also 4gb ram. replaced the graphics card with Nvidia 9400GT super+ 1024 mb.

HDD are sata 465GB and two 120GB. (no raid setup as yet)

Anyway seem to be having loads of problems with this setup, the days of the blue screen of death are back with errors of

"IRQ NOT LESS OR EQAL"

"PFN LIST SUPPORT"

"MEMORY MANAGEMENT"

I have tried disabling device drivers, also run memtest and got no errors....

I have at present installed linux once again and that seems to be stable for the moment... any suggestions`guys n girls

I had something similar on installing an Abit board, try removing 2gb ram and see if it fires up.
Have you tried it with XP?

agree with Bodger,,,,,,,vista likes 2 gig ram,,once you get updates vista sp 1 then you can install the other two,,,

you may want to install just one hard drive,,,the others later

What's funny is you've got quite the computing power if you ran xp it would be one bad a$$ machine. Since your going to run vista, you have a machine that struggles to run it's on OS.

My main computer is vista os, hp laptop. Dual core amd 64 yatta yatta with 2 gb ram. Runs like a constupated dog turd, but it does run. No problems as of yet, and I've owned it for a year.

SP1 installed and all updates on vista.... Tried XP, but just keep error messages of "Stop PCI.SYS", good job the mrs has a lappy.
I would prefer XP, rather than vista......

Will try taking out 2gb ram next and then start playing again, thanks guys

If you are already running Linux, why would you want to downgrade to Vista?

In a related topic, I just recently purchased a new server box to replace a 15 year old one that finally trashed a hard drive. Of course, it only came with Vista pre-installed.. so my first move was to reformat the drive and throw Linux on the box. I'm now in the process of fighting HP/Compaq for my refund since I refused to accept the MS license. Have you actually read that thing (the EULA)?

Cheers,
Brad

I have tried linux and unfortunately that was crashing as well... Windows 7 beta, would not even get off the ground, blue screen after blue screen...
Well the vista has been up and running since I posted and reading bodgers thread, after removing 2gb ram everything seems to be running alright.

Now according to Vista SP1 is supposed to sort the problems out of the memory....

Thanks Bodger

Man am I glad I got back to the Mac. I just hit the return button and it works until I select the sleep option. If I want to use Windows I just select it on my desktop and I have the XP Pro running faster than it ever did on my old Pentium 4 machine.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I ran a Linux / winblows box for a while. I used the windoze for gamming and Linux for everything else. The wife uses the computer also. So had to take my fav os off. I gotta build another box for my Linux machine. It is so much better than windoze ever hopes to be. IMHO. However Windows 7 is looking promising.

hmmm AMD, I always stick to intel myself, but it should work if motherboard is compatible to CPU. I am asuming you already checked that.

Its complaning about PCI. It suggests there is some problem with drivers for your motherboard.
Did you reinstall operating system from scratch? If not it may be trying to use wrong drivers.
Did you get a disk with motherboard with drivers on ?
I know it goes against the grain but I would go back to square 1 and read the manual.

If it's windows 32 bit system you should be able to go up to 3gb of ram.
*Due to AMD CPU limitation, DDR2 1066 is supported by AM3/AM2+ CPU for one DIMM per channel only. Refer to www.asus.com for the memory QVL (Qualified Vendors Lists).
**Due to OS limitation, when installing total memory of 4GB capacity or more, Windows® 32-bit operation system may only recognize less than 3GB. Hence, a total installed memory of less than 3GB is recommended.

I've been running Ubuntu on my notebook for a little over a year now, and wouldn't go back to Windoze. I still have to run Vista on the machine that runs our TV/Movies/Music because MythTV still doesn't have a high enough WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor), and is still a PITA to configure. When Linux has a REAL (ie: not just for geeks) media center, I'll switch over completely.
