Anyone have one of these? If so, what's the quality / utility?

It looks okay to me. I have a battery tender hookup. Haven't used it yet but the Tender adapter was only like $5.

Seriously, do the tenders really prolong the life of the battery?

I don't think they do, my 04 is still fine and never seen a tender or charger at all.

It will prolong the life of your battery if you let the bike sit a long time. You want to keep the battery charged. If you ride the bike regularly, it will stay charged. I own a battery tender, but haven't needed it. My bike is used year round on a regular basis.

I am not sure. My battery has seen better days so I feel better having it on when I don't get to ride regularly. I also like the pretty little lights on the tender.

I did a tech post on the tech side of the chargers that I harvested off the internet from a tech guy. It's not just about keeping the battery charged, though from a practical stand point you want it to turn your battery over when you want a ride.

Now from memory ( may be poor) the normal chemical reaction that takes place in batteries creates crystals (sulfisication?) and this is what over time causes your plates to short out. The tenders, especially the high ends ones are geared to prevent this or address it while it is occurring when it is plugged in. At least that is what I recall from the information I read.

To the initial post about these Power Outlets, they were pulled off eBay because of a mistake in the pricing. They are top quality BTW. The Battery tender adapter has an outlet adapter (male plug in) on it not just pole ring connectors.
