Err, i mean loooong time site members.
What's the deal with Robert Wade? Where has he gone and why?
Is he the only one who could fix photopost?
Inquiring minds want to know. Or at least i do.

I remember when he first started this blog. He used to post everyday. Then I think he bought a Harley. Don't hear from him anymore... ;-)

The other old timers can correct me on any of this. It's been a long, long time.

Robert set all this up in 2002 and participated for a few years. After the upgrade in 2005 to this current forum software from software he'd written from scratch, the d-bags became too much to deal with and he became less and less active. I think the final nail in the coffin was a paint and bodywork deal with a member that went bad. Ultimately he decided that his (rather busy) business and growing family were more important that the BS that comes with running a forum like this. It's too bad that for him at least, the d-bags outweighed the good people.

He always promised to keep the site going, hosting it on his company's servers. Efforts to acquire this site from him have been continuously rebuffed. Out of the group of moderators Phil was named admin and has also succumbed to the pressure and went the way of the Dodo bird. Occasionally he pops up to upload a new avatar.

Robert pays for all the bandwidth, which I'm sure is not an inconsequential amount. People occasionally donate to the "Future Fund" which was originally set up in 2004 (can't remember who suggested it originally, maybe Phil, maybe Dwight, I dunno) was initially used for donations to cover the software, bigger hard drives and if any was left over, the bandwidth costs. I'm sure any and all money ran out a long time ago and Robert has just been covering us.

But other involvement by Robert? Fixing Photopost? Sending Patches? Other broken pages off the homepage? Don't hold your breath.

So before anyone considers bad mouthing our absent benefactor, realize he HAS done a lot for us. Try to focus on the good rather than the bad.

P.S. And before one of you suggests ever so helpfully that Robert and Phil should grow thicker skins, I guarantee that you haven't had to deal with the constant stream of crap generated from bad apples, secure in their online anonymity, who don't care that something like this great resource is being provided for free.

Who bad mouthed Robert? I for one am glad he keeps us going weather he be absent or present. I would like photo post but the boards are much more important. The things I say about photo post are just in jest. If he fixes it that's cool if he doesn't that's cool too. I would think he would do patches to help with costs but there again totally up to him.

Do the donations links still work?

Phil was behind the Future Fund drive. He enlisted the aid of several others (I played a small part) to mount a massive e-mail campaign to every member who listed an e-mail address at the time. Robert Wade absolutely refused to run ads on this site or charge a "subscription" fee. He wasn't receptive at all to our attempts at charity either, but he finally relented and the "Future Fund" was born. I doubt if the donations ever really amounted to much, but he has kept this site alive regardless.

I personally never met the man, but that kind of unselfish giving for the benefit of others, mainly strangers, is unheard of today and I have a lot of respect for the guy....

The value of the info I have received from this site over the years far exceeds what I have given to the FF. And the friends I've made.... - there is no price tag on that.

I hope Robert and his family are well, and his business is flourishing. But if he pulled the plug tomorrow, I couldn't blame him one bit.

What FJ & the member known as Deon is true. Not that I'm an "oldtimer", but I've heard the legendary stories of world-wide cooperation, largely based upon & scripted within the writings of the AUP passed around various cafe's with Triumph Twins parked outside.

Baby sitter fatigue! that is just BS. There is 0 information on that topic from these guys to even discuss it.

Both Robert and Phil are very familiar with PHPbb setup and tweaking. This ain't their first rodeo. Copy paste and edit phpconfig, set the admin permissions and build the forums and categories.

They knew about the personalities, ups and downs and grays of running a board. No bad guy ran them off, they have attention deficit like I do and get absorbed in the next thing that gets their attention.

I reject out of hand that Phil or Robert are too thin skinned to handle a wiseacre or two.

On another note, before Robert pulls the plug someday, we should all join a companion board so we can locate all the past members for when this one gets it lights turned off.

Thanks for the details FJ. I for one am appreciative of Robert's vision and the work of the moderators - cause without this site (and the info I've learned in the past few years), I wouldn't be the happy Triumph owner that I am.

Thanks Robert - wherever you are! May your family bring you constant joy and your business provide you with consistent profit.

I can see how a person can get "tired" of the forum after a while. Dont get me wrong, this forum has been a wealth of knowledge and a source of new friends BUT some time away is needed now and then.

rat.net is filled with ads now and not fun to navigate. Since they were bought their mods are kinda douchers!
Delphi is dominated by the Bonni crowd. Not a bad thing but BAs and Speedies are different.
Newbonnevilleriders is a good one. pretty much anything goes there (love that babes on bikes thread).
Still....I like it here better.

I agree with a companion board so we can all find one another again. This board wouldn't be the same without all the various personalities and views. Would be cool if we could then start another board to replace this one. Lets hope that day is far off but since Robert doesn't seem to be interested in the board anymore I wouldn't take it for granted it will be here. I can only think of 1 instance that Robert was here posting since I joined.

Attention deficit disorder notwithstanding, indeed, how is attention measured? What love thou art for not? Let us judge not but be grateful as we bask in their combined patronage. These two are forthright young men. I am honored to know them.

Well I, like a lot of you am sooooo grateful for this site/forum. I haven't been here long, nor owned a TBA for long but I am already addicted on both accounts. I thank those who I don't even know for creating this 'place' and I send nothing but the best of vibes for them and their endeavors.

Meanwhile I beg of the MC Gods and spirits to keep this site alive and if not... have ALL the good info and people here transferred to a new place. Thanks to EVERYONE for welcoming me into you fold and accepting me as one of your own.

Live to love, love to live.

Firstly I am grateful to Robert for this site...

It is nice to have a model specific place to go where every technical, performance, modification, custom, and questions post relates to BAs and Speedys. Don't have t scroll past multiple forums/threads relating to other bikes.

The quality of folks here makes reading through the site a pleasure.

I am much more familiar with vBulletin than the phpBB type boards, but there should be a lessor admin designation that would allow for oversight of many board features and functions without jeopardizing the owner's security and control. Would be good to have one of the long time regular mods here with such powers for day to day operation and glitch rectification.

Also for dealing with those who relish fanning the flames of controversy.

Except when I do it.

That's fur sure! And I don't see why people take it so personally when someone decides to leave. Nobody owes anyone anything. If anything we owe it to the creator of the site to keep it going, not the other way around.

It's pretty amazing that Robert continues to maintain this site. Even without the PhotoPost(I didn't use it anyway), this place is very well organized. I do a lot of forums for my other interets and this one BY FAR is easier to navigate/use and reliable.

I'll take this opportunity say thanks to the current mods! We probably ****** far more than we're entitled to, but appreciate all the efforts.

Honestly, just between you and me, I couldn't do it. If I was sick of participating in a forum and community I built, I'd have to pass it off to someone else and truly wash my hands of it.

Robert was always a gentleman. He pretty much let threads go were they would, don't ever remember one being cut off. Although he might ask for members not to get personal and cool it a little.
He actually had a meet up at his home for members
If memory is correct he had one of the first bobbed Americas, flat black.
If you love your bike you owe him alot for giving us a place to reference all this info on them.

You're right Thanassis,

"Talk of ba.com's demise is premature" - somebody way more famous than me once said that. I think you might have a statue of that guy in one of your epic travelogues?

Oh the trim could maybe use a coat of paint & that darn garage door doesn't always close right when the humidity's up.

Now if Uncle Phil doesn't come out the other end of his work marathon a virtual crispy critter humming tunes from the Tony Orlando & Dawn songbook, or riding a large displacement V-Twin

Well, until there's a(nother) problem, it pretty much runs itself. The mods only have control over the content, not the software or hardware. Keep your fingers crossed.

I think he has been here briefly since Jan. I thought I saw a new avatar or 2 in that time but he didn't post anything. I understand the work thing, I'm getting bogged down myself. Just post a few before I leave for work like now and maybe a couple more before I go to sleep. My hours are messed up too they change every week like last week was noon to 9 ,noon to 9 ,7am to 4 pm ,10am to 7,and 8am to 5. That messes with your sleep.
