From the beginning of the article

Motorcycle Consumer News has since revised their position and now recommend motorcycle specific oils.

Now, if you have a bike with separate engine, transmission, and primary oils, go ahead and use whatever. But when these components all share the same oil you need one formulated for that purpose.
