I just noticed yesterday that I have 2 small cracks in my windshield. Both originate at the center bolt of the three on the metal mounting band that crosses the shield. 1 is @ 1.5 inches long running behind that band. The other is @ 1/2 inch, running straight up. I want to deal with these right away before they get larger. Has anyone had this problem before? Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with it?
I hit a bird a couple of weeks ago. I didnt think it did any damage, but it must have stressed the plastic just enough. The frame seems slightly tweaked. That band doesnt run smoothly across the shield, it now bows a bit on one side to about a 1/4 inch gap.

don't know how well it would work in this instance, but if you have cracked glass, you drill a hole at the ends of the crack to stop the spreading...

Mark, Thanks for the advice. When I saw your reply, I remembered hearing something along those lines before. I will give that a try this weekend. The way these cracks are right now, they are not really noticible. If this can stop the spread, I'll be happy.

might melt small holes to prevent any more cracking.

Drilling small holes just at the end of the cracks will work. It did for me.

If they get worse, you can get a replacement screen from Clearview. Quote:

Is yours the Triumph factory windshield? I'm asking because the strap holes in my Clearview weren't originally drilled large enough to accept the stress relief bushings that came with the Triumph Roadster screen. I had to enlarge the holes to fit the bushings when I installed the Clearview. I'm thinking that if a screen was installed without the bushings, it might be more prone to cracking.

I thought I would post a quick followup. I have the factory windshield. There are rubber bushings at the 2 main mount points, but not at the 3 smaller mount points on the metal strap. It was at the center of those 3 that the cracks originated. I drilled a hole at the the very tip of each crack with a 1/16 inch drill bit. Its been about 2 weeks and @350 miles and so far the cracks have not progressed at all. It looks like the problem is solved. Thanks for the suggestions!
